Is anyone else an American Idol fan? Maybe a Jennifer Lopez’s high bun fan?

Well I’ll admit I’m a HUGE fan of both! I’ve tried and I’ve tried to achieve the high bun look and I just couldn’t make it work. So many Youtube videos and Google research later I learned how to easily achieve the J Lo bun in less than 5 minutes. It’s perfect for dirty hair days {don’t lie, you know all us moms have them} or the days you are looking to do something different. My husband isn’t a fan of the J Lo bun, but I could seriously where my hair this way every single day!

Disclaimer Alert: I’m not showing my face in any of the photos… it was just one of those makeup-less days yesterday 🙂

So here’s what you need:

Hair Ties: I use one skinny hair tie and one thick hair tie

Brush

Bobby Pins

A sock or leg warmer

Hair spray

Here’s how to get started:

Put your hair in the highest ponytail you can get. I use my skinnier hair tie for this. Make sure to brush out all the lumps and bumps in your hair and get that thing on the tip top of your noggin’! Make sure to put the hair tie in your hair as tight as you can…there’s nothing worse than a bun that falls apart midday.

Take your sock and cut the toe off or grab your leg warmer. I used a rather thick black sock. Thick so that my bun would be bigger and black so if my hair happened to separate (I’m a brunette) in places there wouldn’t be a white sock exposed.

Roll the sock down until it’s completely rolled and in the shape of a donut.

Place your sock donut over your ponytail around your hair tie. Your ponytail should be poking out of the donut hole.

Spread your hair evenly front, sides, and back over the donut hole. This will make you look silly, but it’s short lived I promise.

Take your thicker hair tie and place it over your hair and donut so that the hair is evenly spread over the donut hole. All of your loose ends will be poking out under the hair tie. Wiggle the bun around so the hair tie goes further under the bun to make it as loose or as big as you want.

Grab all of your bobby pins and start wrapping your loose ends around the bun and begin pinning them in. I have super long hair so I have to wrap a bunch, but the shorter your hair is the easier this process will be.

Here I am pinning mid-way through

Hairspray all of your flyaways and voila, you have a J Lo bun!!!

Let me know if you try it out or have an easier bun method!
