Last month I forgot to give a shout out to Vanessa for her birthday and I was notified of my mistake… rarely do I make the same mistake twice.

One year ago today, two very special people got hitched… Vanessa Segovia married Matt Barry and became Vanessa Rae Barry!!!

The ceremony was held in Dallas at The Sanford House, it was an early evening event, outdoors, absolutely perfect weather, and Vanessa couldn’t have looked more gorgeous! I was lucky enough to be asked to serve as a bridesmaid, an honor I failed to bestow {my biggest wedding planning regret} to one of my favorite people {Vanessa} when it came time for my wedding, but that’s a different story.

Vanessa is a major planner, a party planner at that, and she literally left no stone unturned. The food was delicious; there was plenty of adult beverages, a photo booth, a band, a wish tree, a babysitting service, and our sleeping quarters were 18 steps upstairs! It was truly a perfect night with a perfect couple!

Vanessa and her hubs didn’t really have much of a honeymoon as Matt had an interview here in Austin just a few days later. They made their way to Austin where Vanessa had scheduled a full day of spa services at Milk and Honey downtown as Matt prepared for his BIG interview. A lot was riding on this interview {for me}, because that meant that my best friend and Lincoln’s girlfriend would be moving to Austin. A couple of weeks later I got my wish, Matt was hired, and Matt and Vanessa began the tedious task of creating their new married life here in Austin.

Since Vanessa was still working in Dallas, Vanessa and Matt were forced to live the first 6 months of their marriage in different cities. Lots of miles were put on V’s car and at one point, I thought V was going to lose her sanity. As always, good fortune prevailed and Vanessa finally landed an amazing job in Austin! Their days of commuting were over and they could finally live as a family and embrace being Austinites!

There first year of marriage has not been the norm and they have been thrown LOTS of curve balls {that’s for you Matt… I know how you <3 baseball}, but somehow their love for one another has kept them going! Many marriages couldn’t have handled the distance, but not Matt and Vanessa… they are destined for life!

What a year, Vanessa and Matt…what a year!

Cheers to you both on this glorious Sunday morning… enjoy your anniversary and may year 2 bring you a simpler year 🙂

Love y’all dearly.
