Fall is a really exciting time of year for me.  I love all the holidays that seem to come rapid fire.  I love the memories I have of time with family.  I love pumpkin smells, orange and brown, rustic decorations, seasonal drinks at Starbucks – I love fall!  One thing that has become a new tradition for our family is the Elgin Pumpkin Festival at the Elgin Christmas Tree Farm.

We first went in 2010 (when Trent was 15 months and my nephew was 18 months).  There are tons of activities for kids of all ages, live music, food, crafts…the list goes on and on.  There is a per person admission ($5 for kids, $7 for adults) that covers the majority of the activities like the corn maze, pumpkin painting, hayrides, train rides, face painting and animals!

The actual ‘Festival’ is the 2nd and 3rd weekends in October (we’ll be there the 3rd weekend, if you see us, say Hi!), but they also have a ton of fall activities you can view on their Fall page.

2010 – our first time to the Pumpkin Festival
2011 – My sis added a kid to the tradition!

I’m really excited to go back this year but a little scared to think about 2013 when my sister and I will have a combined 5 kids!  I really think our kids will remember these moments and it warms my heart to think we are making holiday memories together.  Anyway, enough sappiness!

Does your family hit up a local fall festival?  I’d love to know other great fall things to do as a family!!

  1. I looove Fall! Another fun pumpkin patch is in Marble Falls – Sweet Berry Farms. They have all sorts of activities for the kiddos (hay ride, corn maze, pumpkin painting, build/stuff a scarecrow and a small petting zoo)…plus yummy treats in their small store (they also grow berries during the summer). It’s another great place for families to visit…a fun day trip that isn’t too far from Austin. 🙂
