Spring Break is right around the corner {March 11-15 for most of us}….what are your plans? Loading up with a slew of small bikini’s, baby oil, and flip flops to head to the beach are days long gone HA! Now if you are headed to the beach your bags are loaded with sand buckets, shovels, sunscreen with the highest SPF you can find, and goldfish snacks. It is a whole different kind of fun 😉 I am not a beach during spring break kinda girl…it has to actually be HOT for me to want to go. There are so many other fun things to do during spring break, even if it is just a long weekend. Here are a few ideas…

  • Camping!! The weather is usually nice outside this time of year {hope I didn’t just jinx us…} so either rustic camping or in a camper trailer or cabin. We have a camper, so we camp almost year round as often as we can. It is so awesome to just be able to let the kids ride bikes/dirt bikes/4-wheelers and play in the dirt, scavenger hunt, make smores, and sit around a camp fire just relaxing. LOVE it. Some great parks are Jellystone {they have a few locations in Texas, we have only been to the one in Canyon Lake and love it}, Krause Springs {wrote about this last year}, Garner State Park, Sam Houston National Forest {might be where you find us, just maybe}….these are just a few. There are TONS of options that are great!
  • Museums…local or out of town. Some fun options could be Austin Children’s Museum, Children’s Museum of Houston, Art Car Museum in Houston {I want to take my boys here so bad!}, Fort Worth Children’s Museum. Again, there are plenty more options!
  • Great Wolf Lodge is a family favorite of ours and a bunch of our friends & family! If you haven’t been you have to go, it is sooo much fun! Also in the Grapevine/Fort Worth area is Legoland Discovery Center, and the Dallas Zoo & Aquarium.
  • Fun camps for the kids! For the parents who have to work and don’t get “spring break” in their scheduled time off {which it definitely should be ;)} there are some fun local camps for the kiddos. I found a website that seems to have lots of options for each area of town…it is called Kidz Austin, I can’t attest to how great it is since I haven’t had to use it, but it seems like a good start if you need ideas. The University of Texas holds a baseball camp from 9-12 for ages 6-18. My boys have done their summer camp and loved it.

So, there are a few ideas of what to do to keep those little ones nice and busy….unless you are looking forward to the time off to just play at home and maybe even sleep late. I know I sure am! We just took a long vacation to Disney World {will blog about it later;)}, so our Spring Break will be pretty low key. Definitely sleeping in, going to the Star of Texas Rodeo for Garner to do the Mutton Bustin’, park with friends, and some camping. Makes me ready for summer!

What are your Spring Break plans?
