logoI’ve had a love-hate relationship with my glasses since I was forced to wear them at age seven. The next six years – until I got contact lenses – were the worst and most awkward of my life and if you were a child of the 80s, you know we weren’t exactly at the forefront of fashion, eyewear included. But as I’ve aged, and aged, my eyes got worse. They got dry. And sometime about five years ago, I just couldn’t wear contacts every day. So I embraced eyewear as an accessory. Right now I have four pairs that I rotate through and I love them. Plus, the nerdy-hipster revolution in style makes me appear to be a forward-thinking style icon with my specs!

The biggest challenge any glasses-wearer faces is sunglasses. You see so many cute pairs but if you’re a coke-bottle RX like me, most of them just don’t work with prescription lenses. Do you know how much I would love it if my Ray-Bans were prescription? I have a separate pair of RX sunglasses but most of the time I don’t bother shuffling them back and forth. Enter Dioptics Sunwear. They offer affordable, fashionable over-the-glasses-sunwear that don’t make you look like you just had cataract surgery.

I tried the Solar Shield® Designer Cross. They’re cute, but I have a tiny face for eyewear so a lot of times I look like I have bug eyes. I loved how they are polarized for crystal-clear vision and you can barely see that I have on a pair of eyeglasses underneath.

She stole them from me!

I happened to have them with me while visiting my mom. When she saw them on me, she said, “They’re too big!” and snatched them right off of my face. I think this style looks way better on her!

Fortunately, Dioptics has lots of other options, even for petite-faces like me. I’m going to try either the Solar Shield® Classic Rec or the Solar Shield® Panorama next since both come in small. Plus, they’re black and I’m definitely a black-sunglasses kind of gal. Although the Solar Shield® Designer Magenta look pretty fun, too…

I know it may seem a little silly to wear two pairs of glasses on your face, but when you’re shopping and have to go in and out of the sun a lot, it’s much easier to remove one pair instead of constantly switching back and forth between your regular glasses and your RX sunglasses. I’m always looking for the little things to make life simpler and for a non-LASIK candidate like me, Dioptics is a good way to go.
