I have been a huge fan of Shellac for a couple of years now! Actually I’m pretty quite addicted and go to the manicurist every two weeks. My nails were pretty thin after being put through the ringer with Shellac. Although it may claim to be better for your nails than acrylic, in reality, it isn’t.

My nails began chipping much more frequently than the promised 14 days so I took the Shellac off and went bare for about a month. After my withdrawals subsided, I found Red Carpet Manicure. It’s an at-home nail system that works just like Shellac but with a LED light rather than a UV light. I purchase a lot of beauty products from drugstore.com. I found that the Red Carpet Manicure was 30% off. The retail price for one kit is about $80. This comes with everything but you only get one polish which is red. I’m not a fan of red. Instead, I purchased everything individually and was able to pick the colors I wanted. It didn’t really cost much more other than getting the colors I really wanted.

After a couple of days, I received it!! I immediately threw everything I was doing aside and gave it a whirl. The full directions are listed below but the cliff notes are that it’s the same application as Shellac. It’s kinda hard to do my right hand but that was seriously the only difficult part about doing it yourself.

I took pictures along the way. I had no chipping whatsoever. I did have growth which is typical but no chipping like with Shellac! I definitely need to improve my nail polishing skills but overall, I think I did a good job. I have to have my nails perfect so admittedly, I didn’t wait the full 14 days but rather 12 to change my polish.

I give Red Carpet Manicure two thumbs up on so many levels. The most important to me is being able to change out my polish when it’s not as perfect as I prefer (which in my case is about 10 days). Initially, it is expensive but if you are getting Shellac manicures every two weeks, this system is actually saving you money in the long run. I like the convenience of doing this on a whim or late at night. I still need to get regular manicures maybe once a month or so but I’m pretty hooked on this system that I’m rethinking my whole Shellac addiction!!
