We are a little beauty-obsessed here at Austin Moms Blog. Just yesterday, Ashlee wrote about her love for her Clarisonic which is a product I really can’t live without. I purchased mine with a Macy’s gift card this past Christmas and my skin has been glowing ever since.

Because of my limited employment these past few weeks, I’ve had to skimp on a few things. One of them is my beauty rituals. As much as I would love to be able to replenish my Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm that I won off of my favorite beauty blog, it’s just not in the cards. {Yes, you saw that price correctly.}

So what’s a gal to do to get clean and clear skin on a budget? Raid your pantry, of course! There are literally thousands of recipes for DIY beauty treatments on Pinterest. While searching, I noticed four ingredients stood out: olive oil, honey, sugar and yogurt. Who doesn’t have these on-hand at all times? Honey is one of those things I over-buy because I never think I have it and now there are three bottles of local honey sitting on my shelf.

So I slathered some on my face.

Not for public consumption. But it tastes pretty good.

To make your own Honey Sugar Lemon Scrub, whisk together the following:

  • 1 Tablespoon of Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil (You can also use Coconut Oil)
  • 1 Tablespoon of Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 cup of Sugar {Brown or white. I used brown because I had more of it}

Rub on your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse clean with warm water. You may not even need moisturizer afterwards but I did because my skin felt a little tight.

Another great beauty DIY is a Honey-Sugar Lip Scrub. Combine 1 teaspoon of honey with 1 teaspoon of sugar and mix with a fork. Rub on your lips for a minute and rinse off.

For a moisturizing facial mask, which I discovered in Seventeen Magazine as a preteen, mix 1 Tablespoon of Honey with 3/4 of cup of Plain Yogurt. Smooth on your face, leave for 15 minutes and rinse off.

Finally, to heal acne scars combine the following:

  • 4 teaspoons of lemon juice
  • 3 teaspoons of plain yogurt
  • 4 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 egg white

Let sit on your scars for 15 minutes then rinse with warm water.

Any one of these will get you buffed, scrubbed, polished and glowing for a fraction of the cost of brand-name beauty products. Even Huffington Post got in on the DIY Beauty game with this great video on what women use in different parts of the world. What are you waiting for? Your pantry is ready to be raided!

What is your favorite DIY Beauty ritual? We want to know!
