When it comes to actually throwing down money for apps, I tend to be a little stingy on even the $.99 ones.  I’m sure there’s some kind of psychological reason behind my reluctance to shell out mere cents for apps, but hey, I don’t think I’m alone in this, right?  It adds up!  And if you’re like me, when you buy an app, you want to make dang sure that it will be worth it.  My husband and I have differing views on this, as he doesn’t bat an eye paying for more Candy Crush levels (raise your hand if you’re guilty….busted).

In my carefully selected and paid-for aresenal of iPhone apps, these three are the top ones that are definitely worth the money:

Heads Up ($.99)-This app from Ellen is my new fave!  It’s a spin on Catchphrase but better, as it gives you seven categories (and more if you pay a little extra) from which to pick.  I absolutely LOVE these kind of quick-thinking, loud, obnoxious games.  Okay well, the silent “act it out” category isn’t so loud, but you get the idea.  My favorite category is the “Accents and Impressions” with “Popstar Overload” coming in a close second.  A cool (and slightly embarrassing) added feature is that it videos the person seeing the clues and allows you to play it back for big laughs afterwards!!!  Who wants to play with me!?!  (available on Android, as well)

Sleep Machine ($1.99)-Growing up, my husband and I both slept with noise…and this crutch has carried over to our children.  On any given night, you can go up our stairs to be met with a whirlwind of fans and sound machines bombarding your ears.  When we travel, this app has come in handy in hotel rooms or even in the car.  And it sure as heck beats traveling with a box fan (one road trip to Angel Fire taught us this lesson).  Just make sure to turn your phone on “Airplane Mode” so no calls or texts interrupt the sound!

A Beautiful Mess ($.99)-Out of all the picture apps, this is hands down my favorite.  I use it on a daily basis to decorate my pictures with text, doodles, pictures, etc. and then upload them to share on Instagram.  The two girls from A Beautiful Mess blog designed it and I just love the creative options they included!  As a side note, if any of you AMB readers are going to the Texas Style Council here in town next month, these girls will be the keynote speakers!

These three apps are most definitely worth it in my book!  Weigh-in Austin moms….what are your must-have iPhone apps???
