I’m pretty sure we all use television to our advantage from time to time. Whether its a rainy day, a cleaning day, or just a Monday, television has to be one of THE greatest inventions! I have to admit, television is not super popular in our home. Unfortunately, Lincoln gets transfixed on the television and could literally watch it all day!

Here are our top 5 favorite and top 5 least favorite TV shows for little kids!

See below for what makes our top and worst list for the older kids!

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: I love Mickey, Daddy loves Mickey, Townsend (4 months) loves Mickey, Lincoln (3 years) loves Mickey! The colors are bright, the songs are catchy, it’s a more current spin on an old classic.

Backyardigans: This has to be the most diverse group of characters. They’re, purple, blue, orange; they have names like Pablo, Tyrone, and Uniqua. This show has truly captivated my son’s attention since a couple months old and at 3, he still loves it! You will surely fall in love with these characters.

Handy Manny: I love Handy Manny, because they will say words in Spanish and English. Little boys love it since there are tools involved. And Manny’s voice is that of Wilmer Valderrama from That 70s Show!

Sid the Science Kid-PBS: I’m not usually a huge PBS watcher, but we caught this one day and Lincoln lived it! They talk about animals and such and show them in sketch and in real life. This show is definitely the more educational if the bunch.

Jake and the Neverland Pirates: This usually comes on after Mickey and its just super cute. Again, the colors are bright, the songs are catchy, and kids just seem to love the “High-Ho, Let’s Go!”

Not so favorites

The Wiggles: These group of adult men have finally retired, but my sister and her kids loved the Wiggles for so many years. I just find it odd to see grown men singing and dancing in spandex. Sorry.

Thomas the Train: Lincoln is obsessed with Thomas! But have you ever seen this freaky deaky train???! Thomas is CREEPY! Enough said. Not my fav.

Barney: I’m sorry, I just can’t get on the Barney bandwagon. Maybe it’s because I know there’s a human underneath all that purple or maybe it’s because growing up Barney was just making his debut and we all made fun of the show. Either way, Lincoln doesn’t watch it.

Yo Gabba Gabba: My counterpart’s (Vanessa) daughter is obsessed with this show! They even go to live shows. I tried letting Lincoln watch it and while I agree, it’s educational and catchy, it’s in line with Barney. It’s all these humans dressed up in scary costumes. I watched it once and never again!

Older Kid Favorites

Bubble Guppies: This show is definitely geared for younger kids, but my 6 year old, Saylor loved the characters and bright colors.

Jessie: Have you seen Jessie? What 10 year old boy wouldn’t love this show? And what 6 year old girl wouldn’t admire this teen beauty?! They love Jessie.

Sesame Street: Personally, my kids didn’t love Sesame Street, but I know so many who do! Also, it’s so educational and has been around since I was a little girl.

The Regular Show: My kids love the Regular Show. It’s full of shenanigans the cartoon kids get into.

Haunted Hathaway’s: Haunted Hathaways is a new show about a family who moves into a house inhabited by a family of ghosts.

Not so Favorites

Family Guy: Ick. It’s totally geared for adults but the kids catch it on TV here and there and they love this show! Totally inappropriate and so on my not so favorite list.

Spongebob Square Pants: I’m pretty sure this is where my son, Parker learned burping and farting was cool. I hate that little yellow sponge.

American Dad: I hate American Dad. It’s an adult geared cartoon that kids love because of the crude humor. It’s not as bad as Family Guy but a close second.
