I was supposed to write the complement to Ashlee’s Life as a SAHM blog today, however, I have a change in plans. I just learned that my ten year reunion is knockin’ on the door.

TEN YEARS have passed since I walked across that stage and received a diploma <that’s also the year I met Allison!> To be honest, I was out the door and off to college then off to Dallas to start my life. I haven’t thought about high school for a quick minute until…I received an invitation to my high school reunion. Guess my reaction? (For those of you that guess, “Oh crap, I need to lose weight! You’re 45% right!) Let me tell you…I was disappointed off the bat because my invitation came in the form of…drumroll please…a Facebook event.

SERIOUSLY? Ten years later and you’re sending me a notification?! I get plenty of those a day, The Science Academy. Why couldn’t I get a piece of mail? Something that is a little bit more exciting than a notification. My Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons that come in the mail thrilled me more than that.

The invitation naturally made me start to think of the last ten years, who I was (skinnier) and who I am now (fatter) and if I should really plan a non-work trip to go see these people, many of whom I wasn’t particularly close to in high school. Although I went to a small high school (graduating class of 120 or so) we were pretty segmented. Those that were in my “group” I remain close to. Those that weren’t…are my Facebook friends. Not all of them, but you know how it goes.

So, here I am, part of this group of people planning my high school reunion and I feel like I’ve been pretty damn united with them for the past ten years. I honestly do not feel like I should go to this thing because of it. Everything I would want to know about people: what they do, who they married, what they named their kids, where they live and what they drive, (Am I skinnier?) I already know. This information has been made available to me at the scroll of my iPhone screen. So, what do I do?

1. Politely leave the group now. Continue to update myself on the lives of those I find interesting on my own?

2. Try and stay away from Facebook for the next few months, go and then be a bit our of the loop when I do reunite with people,” Oh yea…I know…you’re a lawyer!?” <This will be impossible>

I am sure there are other options, but the truth of it all is that I’m a working mom. I’m busy and I have carved out time for those who I want to remain connected <like these lovely ladies.>

Meh. So what’s a mom to do? I 99% do NOT feel like going to this thing, but it’s one of those life milestones that you sort of have to check off a list, right?

What do you think? Reunions…a must go? OR an okay to pass in the name of social media updates?
