I know as a mom I get stuck in a rut of taking my kids to the same places. Or if I’m being completely honest…staying home because I can’t think of anywhere fun to go. So I thought a lot about places that we’ve gone that are lots of fun and FREE! As we gear up for Spring Break, this might help some moms get ideas too!

1. Sprinkler Parks – I know, I know…this week it was 20 degrees. But in typical Texas fashion, it’s going to be in the 70s next week and before we know it 100! And sprinkler parks are everywhere! We’ve frequented the one at the Domain many times and hit up many more around town. Here’s a list from the City of Austin’s website with all the pools and sprinkler parks in Austin. And the ‘burbs have lots more too!

2. Fishing – This one I give all the credit to my husband and father-in-law. They have created a love for fishing in Trent. You can’t get much easier than grabbing a mini-chair and your pole and heading down to the nearest watering hole for a little fishing. And if you’re Trent…a lot of story telling while fishing. {grin} Here’s a list from Texas Parks & Wildlife with all the local fishing holes.

3. Farmer’s Markets – There is so much to explore at a Farmer’s Market. A lot around town have live music so the kids can boogie while you get your local goods {so this isn’t exactly free but there’s no cost to get into it so I think it counts}! Here’s a list of some of the local year-round farmer’s markets.

4. Try a New Park – Ever been to the Round Rock All-Abilities Park? Or Mayfield Park? Or the local ghost town? Or the Austin Nature and Science Center? Now’s your chance to hit up a park you’ve never visited!

5. Take a Hike – Austin is the perfect place to go exploring. You can’t get much nicer than taking a walk up Mt. Bonnell.
