Hi! My name is Laura and I’m a mother to an awesome young man who is almost a red belt in Karate and loves playing baseball. He keeps me laughing with his sense of humor. I’ve been a single mom for 9 years (since my son was 5 months old) and the journey has taught me so much. I can’t wait to share some of the great things I’ve learned along the way!
I started writing ever since I could pick up a pen and was chosen to write for the Beaumont Enterprise, the local paper when I was a teen. I love to travel so I’ve visited Houston, California, New York, even Europe! My first visit to Austin felt like home. Its amazing scenery, awesome culture and promotion of healthy eating finally reeled us in and in 2011 we moved to Austin from Beaumont, Texas. I worked in the corporate industry for a few years and later became an account manager and social media manager for a small web design firm. I love writing with a purpose and I can’t wait to share my research with the Austin mom community! No matter what full time job I have at the time though, I consider my #1 job is being a good mom to my son. Being a mom is the most rewarding job in the world and we’ve been blessed to have made such good friendships with other moms here in Austin over the past 3 years.
Fun Facts:
I can’t decide if I want to be blonde or brunette. I change it about every 6 months, so I guess I’m both? Can you put that on a driver’s license? In 2013, I was chosen to manage social media for the Wizard World Comic Con 3-day event at the Austin Convention Center. I’m a huge nerd, so I loved every minute of that – I even met the creator of Spiderman, Stan Lee! I love adventures, discovering new food trucks and eats in Austin (Kimchi Fries: yum!) I love sushi, and I’m a certified 4-8 English Language Arts and Reading Teacher. I’m also very passionate about shedding light on the food industry in the U.S. and knowing exactly what I am eating and where it came from. My favorite things to do are to watch live sports, go explore the great outdoors, see a good film, or cook a new dish for my son. I believe that you can make your life adventurous with whatever circumstances you are given. Life is short, so LIVE! Carpe Diem!
