In any other place it might seem strange that this week we are bundled in coats and hats and next week is Spring break, but leave it to Texas to keep us on our toes.  I know that these “snow” days have me questioning my sanity at times, so believe me when I say I am counting on good weather and lots of activities to keep my kiddos busy during this spring break.

Here are 40 things to see and do this Spring Break! 

  1. Mount Bonnell – Grab your family, some snacks, and some drinks. Make the stair climb to the top of Mount Bonnell to watch the sunset for a free, peaceful evening.

  3. Graffiti Park – Just off North Lamar and Baylor street, the three story abandoned construction site is an ever changing canvas of graffiti artists. Grab some pics of the kiddos.
  4. Barton Springs Pool – It’s anyone’s guess as to what the weather will look like over Spring Break, but if it’s a sunny day, go have a picnic on the Barton Spring lawn! Barton Springs, Austin Moms Blog
  5. Zach Scott Theatre Check out The Three Little Pigs with the whole family!
  6. Ispy – See who can spot the deer in the convertible on South Congress
  7. Austin Nature and Science Center Dig through the dino pit, visit the amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
  8. JUMPoline Park Two locations for the kids to jump out that extra Spring Break energy.
  9. Peter Pan Mini Golf At the intersection of Barton Springs and North Lamar, this miniature golf course is an Austin icon and never disappoints. There are 2-18 hole courses filled with giant obstacles including the obvious character Peter Pan, a T-Rex, and many more surprises.

  11. Book People One of my personal favorites.
  12. Krause Springs Krause Springs is tucked just outside of Spicewood and is a gorgeous place to visit.
  13. Big Top Candy Shop What kid, or grown-up, doesn’t deserve a sweet treat? BTCS located on South Congress with over 300 different types of bulk candy and 2,000 different types of packaged candy to choose from and if that isn’t enough to satisfy a sweet tooth…they house an old fashioned soda fountain, ice cream, and shaved ice.
  14. Zipline Lake Travis Longest zipline in Texas…need I say more?
  15. Aquafly Take flight high above the water.

  17. Hamilton Pool – Another outdoor waterhole, Hamilton Pool is a great place to take the kids!
  18. Congress Avenue Kayak kayaks and stand up paddle boards can be rented from the boathouse next to the Congress Bridge.
  19. Mt. Playmore Arcades, playscape, food & more! This is a great option if the weather turns wet or cold over Spring Break!
  20. Hill Country Golf and Guitars fairly new Bee Cave joint with mini golf, good food, drinks, and live music.
  21. Zilker Park – Take a ride on the Zephyr train, grab a snack, and enjoy the playground.
  22. South Congress Bats – The kids will be in serious amazement to witness the bats at sunset on South Congress.
  23. Alamo Drafthouse The Lego Movie, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, and Freaky Friday are all part of the kids camp over Spring Break.
  24. iPlay Austin giant inflatables, snacks, drinks, and a toddler area. Hours will fly by at this fun zone.
  25. SXSW – Plenty to see and do , even for the kiddos.
  26. The Thinkery Lots of hands on learning and fun at the same time. Don’t forget to play with the life size lite bright, nostalgia at its best.
  27. Bob Bullock Museum – Lots of cool things to see at Bob Bullock! This is always a win. 
  28. Amy’s Ice Cream You can’t have spring break without Amy’s ice cream. Be sure to check the board for the flavor of the day!
  29. Central Market on North Lamar Grab dinner and let the kids play on the playground. It’s a win-win for everyone.
  30. Freddie’s Place A South Austin backyard hangout; live music, drinks, dinner, and washers.

  32. Austin Steam Train Go on a 6 hour adventure with a 2 hour stop in Bertram for lunch. The kids will LOVE this and it’s an all-day experience!
  33. Revival Visit Hamlet the Pot Belly Pig, see the chickens, play on the vintage outdoor area, or swing in a huge tree swing. Parents, grab a glass of wine and shop a little all while the kids play!
  34. Hat Creek Burger This is not JUST any eatery. With an awesome outdoor play area for the kids, beer & wine on the menu, and awesome burgers, you just can’t go wrong for a couple of hours at any of the Hat Creek locations.
  35. IKEA – If you’re thinking about sprucing up the house a little bit, take the kids to IKEA and let them play in the play area while you shop. Trust us, they’ll think it’s awesome.
  36. Texas Capitol – What a beautiful spot to go. The kids will love running around on the lawn, stomping around on the big state star, and will be in awe and amazement of all the statues to see.
  37. The Original Salt Lick This is a win for everyone! It’s a gorgeous drive and a true destination without being super far away. Everyone will love the food and it’s got a great outdoor area for the kids to run around. Really it’s just good food 🙂
  38. University of Texas Baseball Game Whether you’re a girl or boy parent, taking the kids to a baseball game is always a fun time. Since the Round Rock Express don’t start playing until April, this is an awesome alternative and a way to support our home team!
  39. Lake Travis – Pontoon your way around Lake Travis in a rental from VIP Marina! They start at $75/hour. Grab another family and enjoy some sunshine over Spring Break!
  40. University of Texas Campus – Take a stroll down the drag, take the kids to see the football stadium, and have your picture taken in front of the UT Tower!
