A Weight Loss Journey, Becoming the Best Version of Me!

Last month I told you guys about Medifast. If you missed it, you can read about it here, or I’ll give you a quick synopsis. After having two kids, a major metabolism change and going back to work full time last year, I packed on some extra lb’s. In order to try to drop those pounds, I’m giving Medifast a try.

Medifast is a super easy way to get on track. It was developed by a doctor and has been around since the early 1980’s, so it has proven success. The way it works is pretty straight forward: drink at least 64 oz. of water each day, eat 5 Medifast “Meals” per day (you can purchase food at the Center, just like grocery shopping), and eat 1 “Lean & Green” meal that you prepare yourself based on specific guidelines. Easy peasy!

So – let’s talk about my first month.

The Good:

I’m not going to lie you guys – Medifast is easy. The plan is not hard to follow and the food is actually pretty tasty! (My favorites include the cereal w/ almond milk, the Calorie Burn Cappucino and the Garlic Mashed Potatoes!) The first week is tough because you are cutting your calories and normal eating routine pretty drastically. After the third day, it gets much easier. The consultants at your Medifast Center are so helpful and usually available via phone or email to answer questions throughout the week. They are also very encouraging if you get off track or have a bad week. It’s like checking in with a friend!

The Bad:

For me, personally, it is tough because of my lifestyle. My husband is a closet “foodie” and I appreciate good, unique food as well. Not only do I like to frequent the incredible food scene that Austin has to offer, but my husband is a great cook. Most of the food that we eat is not considered “unhealthy”, however, it’s not always in like with the “Lean & Green” guidelines. We travel a lot and we also live at the Lake. We spend our weekends on the boat or on the shore, barbecuing (and having a few drinks!) with our kiddos, friends and family. Because of this, it’s been hard for me to stay on track every single day.

The NOT Ugly:

Despite it being a challenge due to my lifestyle, Medifast really does work. I’ve lost over 10lbs in my first month, and that was with falling off the wagon a couple of times. I’m excited to see what next month has in store when I’m staying on plan 100% of the time now that I’m back to work and adding in more physical activity each day.

Stay tuned…I’m on my way to losing my goal of 25lbs. in three months with Medifast. Have you given it a try? How is it helping you to achieve your goals?

  1. I have been on Medifast and I initially lost 50 lbs in 5 months! Then over the summer I was only able to lose 10 lbs because of vacations and traveling but that is still a lot. I’m exciting to get back on track and kick off 25 more lbs. The diet is great!
