Spring break may be a break from school — but it is NOT a break from being a parent. There’s a whole week to entertain the kiddos that are normally engaged in school. But don’t go stir crazy in the house — here are 50 ways to get out and enjoy what the Austin area has to offer.

1. Rodeo
The Rodeo Austin goes from March 12-March 26. The fairgrounds opens at 10 a.m. daily, and has a carnival, shopping, food and a variety of shows and special attractions.

2. Sherwood Forest Faire
While this faire runs weekends from Feb.13 – April 3, it is open Friday, March 18 during spring break. You can see performances, shop, and enjoy the food and games. It is located in McDade, in northern Bastrop County.

3. SXSW
While it may seem like it’s only for adults, there are plenty of outdoor concerts to enjoy with the little ones.

Community Activities

43. Go through old childrens’ books/toys/DVDs/games and donate them to a hospital/ foster care system.

44. Gather a group of friends and go to your local nursing home for a visit/craft/song.

45. Do a clean up at your local playground.

46. Make Easter Cards and deliver them to your local hospital/nursing home.

47. Sign up to Drive A Senior — you can do it with your kids!

48. Hold a “dog wash” in your driveway to raise money for an animal shelter or dog rescue.

49. While you’re at it, adopt a pet at your local animal shelter.

50. Write letters to deployed service members.
