Freshly painted shiplap, unique antique finds, and a store full of inspiration. Welcome to Magnolia Market!

Waco holds a special place in my heart long before Magnolia Market came about. Most people only recognize Waco for Baylor University or the halfway point between Austin and Dallas. Well, Chip and Jo put Waco back on the map thanks to the best show ever, Fixer Upper. They recently relocated their store to the historic Silos. My husband surprised me with tickets to the grand opening back in October and it was nothing short of amazing. We recently went back to Waco for a day trip and took our girls along with us. They had a blast in Waco! Although Magnolia Market is super popular, there are plenty of other options to make your day trip to Waco complete. Here are some tips for day trippin’ to the Silos…

Magnolia Market
601 Webster Ave.

One thing to keep in mind is that Magnolia Market isn’t a huge store and a line forming outside of the front door is not uncommon. I recommend going in the morning so you can enjoy your time and not feel over crowded. Behind the store, you will find a lawn with bins of lawn games for the whole family. There are several food trucks to fill your empty belly after shopping. A fresh garden is also located on site. We purchased a few things to take home and plant this spring season. Chip and Jo truly made it a place that feels like home. You can’t leave Magnolia Market without a few photo ops. Look for the “welcome” on the wood floor as you walk in and snap a picture of your shoes by it. Also, there is usually a seasonal set up on the lawn outside. Magnolia Flour is set to open spring 2016. It is a bakery that I am sure will not disappoint! It is right outside the entrance gates.

Tips:

There is street parking available surrounding the store and a gravel parking lot behind the store.
There are clean bathrooms outside with changing tables for your little ones.

Here is a list of food trucks:

  • Co-Town Crepes
  • Cheddar Box
  • Milo Local Provisions
  • Common Grounds

Harp Design Co.
808 N. 15th St.

Harp Design Co. is a cute little store a few streets away from Magnolia. Clint, the owner, is the carpenter featured on Fixer Upper. They were also featured on Fixer Upper and ironically live right next door to the shop. So, look to your right when you pull up and you can see a real life fixer upper. If you want one of the softest t-shirts in the world, be sure and snag a Harp Design Co. shirt. IMG_4302

My oldest daughter loved the wooden tic tac toe travel game. Meanwhile, I want the table that it was sitting on. Swoon!

Fun Fact: They recently purchased a new home and might turn their current fixer upper home into a retail shop.

Common Grounds

Cowboy Coffee. That’s all you need to know. Go order an iced cowboy coffee. You’re welcome. The owners of this coffee shop were also featured on Fixer Upper. There is also a Common Grounds food truck, but the original coffee shop is eclectic and quaint. It’s a fun stop right off I-35 and located on campus.

Make a pit stop to see the Bears. Yes, real life bears on campus. They live a pretty good life!  The campus grounds are beautiful, so take a walk across campus to see the new football stadium.

Local Eats:

If you didn’t visit the food trucks, here is a list of favorite spots to grab a bite:

  • Health Camp:: the best burgers and shakes
  • Vitek’s BBQ:: famous for their “gut pak”.
  • Schmaltz’s Sandwich Shop:: fresh bread and meats.
  • Cafe Homestead:: locally sourced and organic American cuisine.

Time to schedule that day trip now…you won’t be disappointed.

You’ll love checking out Spice village as well in Waco. It’s downtown near the Silo’s. It’s a huge store with several different little eclectic shops. It’s another fun stop on your tour of Waco. Downstairs from Spice is a little Cafe called “Olive Branch” which is a great stop for lunch, cakeball or coffee!

Heritage Creamery opens next door to Common Grounds this Saturday. I have had their ice cream at the farmer’s market and it is great!

It seems sacrilegious to not have mentioned at least one good local Tex-Mex restaurant.
