Burgers

Burgers are a staple in our house. We are straight up carnivores, and love sinking our teeth into a delicious burger. Ok, really if you are getting technical, we are omnivores, but you get the gist.

There are countless places in Austin to grab a nice greasy burger, but these are my personal favorites, in no particular order:

  • Hopdoddy

If you haven’t been here a) I don’t blame you because the line can seem daunting and b) I’m sorry you haven’t tried it yet, because this place is delicious. The Primetime is my favorite, featuring Brie cheese and caramelized onions. Oh and the fries are my favorite. Oh and the sea salt milk shake is my favorite. (You can tell I have a lot of favorites here.) They have some salads that look really delicious too, but I honestly have no idea what those taste like, because I am too busy sinking my teeth into the burgers.

  • Top Notch

This is an old school drive-in style restaurant has been open since 1971 with delicious cheese burgers and onion rings, sweet potato fries, fried okra…it’s a comfort food paradise. This place is a staple and just plain good. It made a cameo in that cute little movie, Dazed and Confused — You might have heard of it.

  • Hat Creek

Fun playground, delicious burgers, and amazing milkshakes — what else could you wish for? I especially love their house made jalapeno sauerkraut. Plus, it truly is a family environment where you don’t feel bad if your child is running everywhere. Every Tuesday night is family night so it’s 1/2 off burgers from 5pm to close. They have locations all over Austin so find one that fits for you and make it a burger night!

  • Hut’s

This place sits in the heart of Austin on West 6th St. They offer hamburgers pretty much any way they can possibly be offered, and they all taste so SO good. You need a knife and fork for their onion rings, and their homemade ranch goes perfectly with them. Their daily blue plate specials are good too, y’all. So before you go do all your healthy shopping at Whole Foods down the street, stop by Huts and fill up on some burger goodness.

  • Dan’s

This place does so many things well. Breakfast is one of those things, but if you are in the mood for a burger, and see Dan’s coming up, stop. They offer a perfect burger, that honestly never disappoints. You may have to wait in that drive-thru line a little longer than your typical fast food restaurant, but I promise it’s worth it.

  • Phil’s Icehouse

There are so many reasons this place is awesome. First I’ll start off with their great food. They have anything from mini sliders to getting a mix of regular fries and sweet potato fries, which I love. They cater to families with their awesome playgrounds. AND they are connected to Amy’s Ice Cream. Really when it comes to taking the kids somewhere for a burger, Phil’s is the first place that pops into my head.

  • P.Terry’s

The burgers are smaller than some places, but they are always delicious with a special sauce and ALWAYS have the freshest lettuce and tomatoes. And the fries are SO dang good. And they will give Fido a bone and some water if he decides to join you for lunch.

  • Casino El Camino

So this place is probably best for a meal sans kiddos {it’s a bar folks}, but the burgers are phenomenal, including the Amarillo Burger with roasted Serrano chiles, jalapeno jack cheese and cilantro mayonnaise or the Pitts Burger with mushrooms, onions, provolone cheese, and A-1 sauce. If you are in need a of Bloody Mary, I’ve heard they are the best around. The

  • Second Bar + Kitchen

This place has a whole lot of delicious on it’s menu, but the burger is one of the best. It’s a great place to take your significant other for a nice dinner and some drinks. You can get the Congress Burger (made of ground brisket + chuck) and add on such items as seared foie gras, pork belly, with an over easy egg. Sit on the patio for some fun people watching.

  • Whataburger

Y’all, I know its a big old chain, but it hails from TEXAS, and I couldn’t leave this place off my list. The burgers are as big as your face around and they are so good. And those fries with that ketchup is something you just can’t beat. They are open 24 hours a day, 364 days a year. This place is almost always there for your burger needs.

  1. Austin ale house! Sans kids here too but totally worth it. Their texas two step is to die for. But you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu. I’m still saying they are the best in austin.
