I won’t lie I love Pinterest as much as the next woman, but my success tends to be restricted to the kitchen. I am not a crafty momma. But every now and then I like to push myself out of my comfort zone. This year when contemplating Christmas crafts I looked at the super cute ones that might be accomplished in a few nap times without little toddler hands. Then I figured there will be time for that when he isn’t as eager to spend every minute with me so why do it now? On the other hand though I am also a busy working mommy so I had to look for realistic and simple crafts and found two that were totally feasible and cute.
Thumbprint Christmas Lights
Supplies:
1 packet of finger paints
4×6 mini canvas or pallet
sharpie for your “string/cord”
Method:
This one is simple and can be as OCD or laid back as you want. Meaning that you can draw out the “string” ahead of time and restrict your kiddo or let them go crazy. My take was somewhere in the middle. I took it as an opportunity to talk about colors and numbers. He got to pick which colors of paint he wanted, which order to paint, and how many “lights” of each color. Then after I drew the string to go with it. It is a sensory activity, worked his motor skills, took all of 15 minutes, and he loved it!
Helping Hand Oven Mitt
Supplies:
White paint
Sponge or brush
White paint pen (if you choose)
Colored Oven Mitt
Method:
Our grandmothers love to cook or bake so this one was perfect. I’ll be honest, this one wasn’t as fun for him, but it was quicker and turned out super cute. Pretty simple here and much easier with older kids than babies. Paint your kiddo’s hand (or hands if you want to do both) and press firmly for a few seconds on the mitt. You can add a sweet message, their name, and year with the paint pen (or brush if you’re fancy like that).
There you go mommas. Two easy, simple, and realistic Christmas crafts anyone can make!
