Hi, everyone! My name is Jessica Rockowitz and I’m so honored to join this team. We are pretty brand new to Austin, having just moved last June from the East Coast. I’m from Boston (go Patriots!), and my husband is from New York. We were recently living in Philadelphia for the past few years as I finished graduate school. We transferred to Austin to be closer to my family in California, because I love sunshine, and partially because we have a deep love for tacos. I have met some great moms here and am falling hard for this city!
Speaking of graduate school, I’m a former OB/GYN Nurse Educator. I had an incredible job helping inner-city pregnant mamas but took a leap of faith when my second child was 20 months old to stay home with him and spend more time focusing on my writing. I’m still licensed and help my friends with their pressing OB questions, but I’m now a freelance writer and content manager for some great clients. I specialize in social media management and helping brands build and develop their blogs in order to increase engagement. There are pros and cons to the freelance life, but that’s for another post. I sometimes ponder returning to nursing when my youngest heads off to school, but writing has always been my passion. I want to see where it takes me.
I have three incredible kids that are pretty cool most of the time – Hayley, 12; Colin, 3; and Graham, one this month. I also have a rescue fur baby, Ava, who is half poodle, half mystery. What makes my perspective on motherhood unique is my start to it. We were young parents with Hayley, and I quite literally attended college with her. She and I were part of a program for parents at a beautiful college in Boston that allowed us to live on campus and give me as close to a traditional college experience as possible. They even paid for her childcare! Being a young parent was an experience that almost seems like a lifetime ago. Now that I have my two boys, I feel like I’m trudging through two very different trenches simultaneously – the world of girl drama and puberty coupled with diapers and tantrums.
One of my greatest passions is shopping small. About 90% of my kids’ clothes and many of my household products come from small businesses. I love discovering new brands and shops on Instagram and Etsy. Not only am I getting something unique, but I am supporting a family run business. I am subsequently deeply in love with children’s fashion. I could fill an entire post gushing about my favorite brands.
Other things I love:
- Cold Brew Coffee
- Craft Beer
- Nate Berkus by Target
- Throwing over-the-top, Pinterest worthy birthday parties
In my spare time, I recently launched my personal blog that is basically my form of free therapy.
Can’t wait to share my posts and perspective with y’all! Thanks for reading.
