Though it almost feels like we just took down our Christmas trees, Easter is already almost here. At your last Target or HEB trip, you were likely blasted with Cadbury Eggs, dye kits, and pastel overload — just in case you needed further proof. Many parents have fallen into what I like to refer as the “Plastic Overload Rut,” where you wander the Target Dollar Spot aimlessly and load your cart with a bunch of knick knacks that will likely end up lodged under your couch in less than a week’s time. There are only so many bunny ears, colored socks, and cheap crayons that a girl can buy.
If you want to get a little creative with the Easter Baskets this year but aren’t quite sure where to start, we’ve compiled a great list of items that are fun, adorable, and budget friendly. We’ve even organized them by age, from babies to tweens and beyond.
Here are Easter basket ideas for every age:
Age 0-2
Enjoy this phase because your child is blissfully unaware that the Easter Bunny exists. If we’re being honest, he or she would probably be petrified if you traveled to your closest mall and attempted a photo op. During this stage, you can get away with just a couple items in your child’s basket — in fact, don’t be afraid to just opt out of one altogether! If you’re set on including your littlest babe, though, here are some great age appropriate gift ideas:
- Eco-friendly teething accessories, like The Teething Egg or this adorable Donut Teether
- June & January Sleepy King Bunnies — I can barely handle how cute these are!
- Board books
- Cute themed pajamas — the Cat & Jack line at Target is pretty swoon worthy
- Bannor Toys wooden rattle — you can also personalize these!
- Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles
Toddler & Preschool Age
This is one of my favorite ages to shop for — there are just so many great options! Preschoolers enjoy the classic staples like bubbles and chalk, which also happen to be very budget friendly. We’ve also included some great items from smaller shops that your preschooler will love:
- November Oak Felt Ball Necklaces — these are handmade by a local Austin mama and are just gorgeous! Boy moms, check out the dinosaur options!
- Sidewalk Chalk
- Melissa & Doug On the Go Water Wow — I love that these are mess-free!
- Bubbles
- Bathing Suit/Swim Trunks — if you want to match your babe, Korti Jeane has great options for girls and boys!
- Sunglasses — Target Dollar Spot has a ton right now!
- Cute themed pajamas
- Flip flops or water shoes
- Healthy snacks such as Annie’s Graham or Cheddar Bunnies to keep the Easter theme going
Elementary Age
This age can be a bit tricky, because your child is outgrowing a lot of the preschool favorites but isn’t quite old enough for the tween gifts. See our ideas below:
- Sidewalk chalk
- New bike helmet with their favorite characters or colors
- Age appropriate chapter books like Junie B Jones or Eerie Elementary
- Growums Garden Kits for Kids
- Anything Trolls or Moana — I love this Singing Necklace
- Fun family classic game like Jenga
- Small arts & crafts activities that can fit in their basket, such as polymer clay and Scratch Art
- Fun robot bath bomb from Lush
Tween & Beyond
Let’s be honest — your tween is mainly interested in friends, sports, and technology. Finding gifts and interests outside of these categories can be tricky. Here’s our line-up that we think they’ll love:
- Age appropriate books, such as The Divergent Series or anything by Rick Riordan
- Gift cards for local activities such as iFly, High5, or the movies
- Adult coloring book accompanied by a set of colored pencils
- Popsocket for their cell phone
- Slime is all the rage amongst this crowd. Learning Express has some great pre-made slimes to choose from, or throw in some key ingredients — like glitter glue — for a fun DIY with your child
- This group is crazy for emojis — pillows, blankets, keychains, and anything else you can find!
- The S’ip by S’well water bottle from Target
- Perplexus original brain teaser
- Phase 10 card game for family game nights!
