This Father’s Day, have your kids surprise Dad with a gift that will keep him smiling for years to come. It’s incredibly simple Father’s Day craft to make; I promise you won’t end up with a Pinterest fail here! Plus your kids will enjoy helping, and you probably have the items you need already in your home. Let’s get started!
The items you will need:
- Box of Legos or Duplo
- A red and a black Sharpie (or whichever colors you prefer)
- Mason Jar
- Twine or Ribbon
- Gift Tags (2)
- Scissors
- Optional: Measuring Tape, if you like to be precise
The first thing you’ll do is sit with your kiddo and brainstorm a list of things they’d like to do with Dad. This part was so much fun! My five year old daughter came up with some hilarious ideas, and I included the ones I could (going to the moon, although wonderfully ambitious, is an unlikely father-daughter activity). You’ll likely need to come up with a bunch yourself, too. Think of things that Dad has mentioned wanting to do with his kids. Aim for experiences that Dad and Child will both enjoy.
*Side note: If you want to include activities that will take many years to complete, use the regular Legos. I used these and was able to fit well over one hundred in my mason jar. If you prefer to use less, go for the larger Duplo style.
Once you have your list ready, write each activity on a Lego using your black Sharpie. Place all the Legos in the mason jar and fasten the lid.
Use your Sharpies to write something cute on the gift tag. I copied from Pinterest and wrote “Building Memories with Dad” and my preschooler personalized her own gift tag.
Cut your twine or ribbon to the desired length. I measured out 60 inches so I could wrap the twine around the mouth of the jar a few times for an added decorative touch. After wrapping the twine around the jar, thread your gift tags onto one end of the twine and then tie a bow. Ta-da! Stand back and admire your adorable and thoughtful creation!
It might seem self-explanatory, but it’s a good idea to have you or your little one explain the concept to Dad after the gift is presented. As they build each memory from the jar, they stack the Legos until eventually the jar is empty and they have a Lego creation representing the memories they’ve made together. This is one gift that any dad is sure to love!
