As I’ve shared before, Matt and I deeply want to learn all about Love and Logic, so when Laura reached out to Austin Moms Blog…to say I was tickled is an understatement.  She and I had the chance to chat about Love and Logic and the upcoming opportunities for Austin Mamas!
————————————————————————————————-
As a stay-at-home mom of a six-year-old and a four-year-old, High Five Parenting owner and course facilitator, Laura Baker, puts Love and Logic principals and techniques into practice everyday.  Laura believes that, “Children naturally test limits that we set – and my children are no different.  However, Love and Logic has given me the tools I need to handle my children in effective ways that allow them to learn from their actions and allow us to maintain a loving relationship.”

And, as a facilitator of this course, Laura has the opportunity to see parents come back to class each week more relaxed and more confident.  Laura believes that, “My own experiences with the principals and techniques as well as hearing success stories from course participants inspires me to continue spreading the word about Love and Logic.”

What type of topics are covered during the course?
High Five Parenting offers the Love and Logic Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun!™ course.  This course explores effective skills to help parents raise respectful, responsible kids while lowering the stress of parenting.  The course focuses on children from birth through age six and is designed to help families in five key areas:
  • Preserve and enhance the child’s self-concept.
  • Guide children to own and solve problems.
  • Share the control and decision-making.
  • Offer empathy, then consequences.
  • Build the adult-child relationship.
The small group atmosphere allows course participants to ask questions and problem solve with other parents facing similar challenges.  Parents report they gain an invaluable perspective from their own reflection as well as from hearing questions and success stories from other parents taking the course.

When can parents start using Love and Logic?
As soon as babies start exploring their environment and testing limits adults set by spitting food, throwing sippy cups, climbing things they shouldn’t and getting into things that are “off limits” they are ready for Love and Logic.  They are ready for loving limits and logical consequences.

What parents are saying about this course:

“The class came at a critical time with our daughter’s adjustment to having a little sister and it has really helped us out!” – Lisa N.

“This has been a wonderfully positive strategy for both my husband and I to be on the same page with.  We struggled with how to deal with certain issues and this course has given us great tools to use. “ – Holley M

“Thank you for an amazing class!  The first night of class I was full of anxiety and had a long list of behaviors I wanted to change. The last night I was so relaxed and I had to struggle to think of something big that needed work on.  WOW!!  It’s really amazing how a few simple tools and the way we word and say things can make a huge difference!” – Elizabeth B.
