Sooo…we’ve come up with a new little series to give you all a snapshot into our lives and our thoughts on things.  Shout out to Quad City Moms Blog for inspiring us!

Every Tuesday you’ll hear from a different Austin Moms Blog Blogging Mama and we want to hear from YOU!  If you’re interested in sharing a little about your life, please e-mail us: [email protected].  We learn and grow as mamas when we hear from great ones like you!

Were you “ready” to become a parent when you did?  Was it planned?

No, Caroline wasn’t planned…you can read about that here and here. And I think the “ready” gene kicked in as soon as she was yanked out (sorry for the graphic image but I had a C-Section!)

Favorite place in Austin to spend the day with your family?

We love the Austin Children’s Museum.  It’s free sometimes, but even when it’s not, we love it because it’s indoors, we support a non-profit in the process and it’s educational.

Favorite kid friendly restaurant?

Austin Java! It’s slowly becoming one of my favorite spots in Austin.  Every time we go there are kids galore and their kids menu isn’t fried!

Favorite date spot?

We have a couple.  We REALLY like Alamo Drafthouse because efficiency is key in our life (dinner and a movie at the same time…BONUS!)  We also like Steiner Ranch Steakhouse.  It has amazing views and the best queso in Austin.

Your biggest guilty pleasure?

Reality and Crime TV!  The Bachelor/ette, The Voice, American Idol, Law and Order, Criminal Minds and Person of Interest.  Phew.  I suffer from insomnia so I watch a lot of TV between midnight and four am.

If you could snap your fingers and talk to your pre-married/mommy self, what would you say?

DON’T SKIP ONE DAY OF YOUR BIRTH CONTROL!  I love my daughter to pieces…my life would not be complete with out her…but I would have liked a few more years of Vanessa-time to work on developing my career and work on my relationship with Matt.  He and I are a perfect match, but we could have used more time to check things off our single and married list like travel, etc.

What is the beauty product you never leave home without?

MAC Studio Fix. It takes two minutes to apply and I look like a ghost without it.

What baby product do you never leave home without (other than diapers and wipes for those of us with wee ones)?

At this juncture…a binky.  It’s hell is we forget it.

What are three things you always have with you?

My cell phone, money and my makeup.

What is one thing you could work on in your relationship now that you have kiddos?

Incorporating romance.  It’s been really tough for me.  I guess I have a pretty good excuse since I commuted for nearly 7 months, but still…I could work on showing my husband a little more love and affection.

Your hardest parenting moment so far?

So far, the greatest challenge we’ve had is dealing with 17 1/2 months of sleeping issues.  Fortunately we’re over that hurdle just in time for the terrible twos.

Biggest surprise about parenting so far?

HANDS DOWN the biggest surprise has been what an amazing father Matt is–not that I thought he’d be a deadbeat or anything–BUT it’s inspiring to watch him care for our daughter.  Makes me love him more and more every day!

Where do you see your family in five years?

In a home in Austin (we’re still in an apartment since moving from Dallas) and as a family of four.

More kids? Will you try again?

Yes, one more kid.  We wanted to try when Caroline was one but we quickly realized how ready we weren’t for another one.  We’ll probably get our baby makin’ pants on sometime this year.
