When I first got pregnant with Lincoln my brain immediately went to worry. Worry I’d have a miscarriage, worry that he wouldn’t have 10 fingers and 10 toes, worry that his test results wouldn’t come back normal, worry that he’d be stillborn… seriously, the list goes on and on and on. One of the things I didn’t worry about was his development. It just wasn’t something that I thought about.

I’ve told my story about developmental delays and Early Childhood Intervention as well as eating issues with Lincoln so it’s safe to say that Lincoln’s development has been a core focus in our family; As I’m sure it is for many families.

1 in 6 children suffers from a developmental delay or disorder.

Some of our initial delays were in the gross motor department; we had a late crawler thus a late walker thus a late runner thus a late jumper, etc etc. Now, we don’t even think about his gross motor delays since he’s right where he needs to be, but find ourselves more concerned about his speech. As you can see he rides 4 wheelers and plays baseball now.

In the grand scheme of things, Lincoln has a pretty minor speech delay, but nonetheless, we want to be on top of it and get him where he needs to be.

Our developmental pediatrician recommended From the Heart Therapy Services (FTHPS) to us and I love them so much, I felt like sharing the love.

We’ve been with FTHTS since November and I just can’t say enough wonderful and positive things about our experience with these therapists. It really makes ALL the difference in the world finding the “right” therapy for your child. Nobody wants to admit that their child may have a developmental delay, but my husband and I are proud in the fact that we haven’t been naïve or in denial regarding Lincoln’s milestones. We know Lincoln will be just fine in life and having the tools from FTHTS really has made all the difference. He’s come such a long way in such a short time and has really bridged the gap with his speech.

FTHTS treats an array of disorders, delays, and difficulties and they see people who are as young as 1 year old and as old as adulthood. They work with children who are Autistic, suffer from Attention Deficit Disorder, have Down Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, the list goes on. They also have a therapy-based preschool program. Everything is play-based and meant to be fun! Lincoln absolutely loves his therapists, talks about them all the time at home, and can’t wait to go to therapy each week.

When you’re a parent, you just want what’s best for your child. You want them to have an easy and fulfilling life, grow up to be productive citizens, and above all else, be happy.

I wrote today’s blog, because I know how difficult it is for parents to be open and talk about their child’s delays. I also know that there are MANY MANY children that have delays and difficulties; some worse than others. Nobody wants to talk about what their child ISN’T doing; they want to brag about what their kid IS doing. It is my hope that you know that you are not alone and there are amazing places like From the Heart Therapy Services that can help propel your child.
