Swimming
Jumping in a pool to cool off during the stifling Texas summer heat is a necessity, but safety first mamas. Today on the blog we will share a few options around town for swim lessons for your tots (big or small). I started each of my kiddos in swim lessons at age 3 for 2 reasons…1) That is when they showed a bigger interest in actually swimming and not just splashing around and 2) I wasn’t able to do parent & me classes because when each of my boys was 3 there was a new baby that most likely was NOT going to sit quietly while mommy and older bro swam it up for half an hour ;). Other AMB mamas recommend starting swim lessons at age 4 and have had great success. There are quite a few options that are convenient for all of us. Here is our list of options:

5. Infant Swimming Resource

This is much more than just swim lessons, ISR teaches swim survival. There are local certified teachers that work with your child one on one for 10 minutes a day Monday through Friday for an average of 4-6 weeks. They teach them to not panic in scary situations and how to survive until help arrives. There are certified teachers all over town. It is expensive, but if you can afford the cost I think well worth it. There are videos on their website that will shake you to the core. Check them out!

There are also many neighborhood and public pools that offer swim lessons, as well as gyms. I know the gym I go to {Lifetime Fitness} offers them during the summer. Check out your local areas for more info. Here are a few links to hopefully make it easier:

City of Round Rock

City of Cedar Park

My older sons took lessons at Nitro and did great, and my youngest took lessons last summer at Emler and we loved it too. I definitely plan on having my boys do the ISR because we plan on having a pool soon. I personally need that piece of mind, but I have also considered sending them back for regular lessons at Nitro and Emler to better their basic skills.

Where did you take your kids for swim lessons and was it a good experience? What age did you start them?
