picstitchThis summer has been an exceptionally busy one, and that is a good thing. We have been having a lot of fun and while as a stay at home mama I always look forward to the routine of school {type A personality folks}, but I am no where near ready for my kids to go back to school!!! Not too long ago fellow contributor, Elizabeth wrote about an Austin Bucket List and we have been trying to mark places off of ours! Here is a little bit of what we have been doing:

  • We own a camper trailer and LOVE going camping…despite the heat we have been quite a bit, a little bit local and a little bit not. A fabulous local place is Emma Long Park on Lake Austin! We had our camper set up there for over 1 1/2 weeks and stayed on and off during that time. It was nice to be able to go home if needed and be surrounded by our great city for whatever we wanted to do…or eat 🙂 We have also had a couple other local camping trips…we don’t let much time go between our trips.
  • We had the best family reunion in June on Lake LBJ, we rented a cabin in Log Country Cove. They have cabins that sleep 4-40+….we had 12 adults and 13 kids, so we had a pretty big cabin and it was perfect! It also had a pool and we were right on the water, so it was the best of both worlds. We loved it so much we have already booked our stay for 2014!!!
  • Last year we started a yearly tradition with 2 families in our neighborhood that we are best friends with to take a summer weekend and go somewhere fun. This year we went camping at Jellystone Park on Canyon Lake, and had a really fun time. The weekend was filled with many laughs. It was also my birthday weekend, so it was nice to be with a few friends and just relax. We went swimming at the pool, the river, and we also took all 7 kids on their first river tubing experience! I think most of them liked it, but one got stung by a bee 5 minutes into the excursion and then a storm blew in….good times :).
  • We have spent a lot of time (and money) at Top Golf this summer, it is definitely a family favorite! We have had mommy-son, daddy-son, and family dates there. I am sure it is just a matter of time before we are headed back too.
  • With a family membership we have also been to the Austin Children’s Museum and plan to go back a few more times before they temporarily close in September so they can move to a bigger and better spot in Mueller! We are excited for the Thinkery!!
  • My 2 oldest kiddos each did a Longhorn sports summer camp, one did football, the other did soccer. They LOVED it and can’t wait to do one next summer! Their camps were separate weeks, so that gave me time with the other 2 to just go explore Austin….we went to Shipe Park, Little Stacey Park, the UT Co-op, Tyler’s, checked out some cool murals on the drag and explored campus too!
  • We have thoroughly enjoyed the oh so delicious snow cones from Sweet Caroline’s on Mesa and Spicewood Springs…if you haven’t been you must go!!! We will be checking out Elizabeth’s recommendation on Sno Beach as well….I am a sucker for a good snow cone!

photoThose are the big highlights so far from our very busy summer! It is going by much too quickly and I am not ready for school to start next month! We still have quite a few on our list for the summer though…including iFly, a trip to the Frio at Frio Pecan Farm (Allison blogged about it a while back and we stayed there last summer and LOVED it!), Blues on the Green, and Hamilton Pool just to start ;). Then we will be leaving the great state of Texas for a beach trip to Florida which I am so excited about!

On a side note….the Hubs and I took our youngest to dinner last night…we went to Sway on S 1st Street and it was YUMMY! Go there…you’ll like it!

What has your family been up to this summer? What else is on your list?
