In our family we believe the Easter holiday is a true celebration of love, God’s perfect love.  So what better way to mark this wonderful occasion than with a LOVE sign?!?!

Follow these 5 easy steps to create some special gifts.

Easter LOVE Sign. 5 easy steps for a beautiful DIY Easter gift.

STEP 1: Paint the Background a Solid Color  I painted each canvas a soft gray so no white would show through.  Make sure to cover the sides of the canvas also.

STEP 2: Add Color  I chose to stick with soft blues and greens, boy pastel colors!  I played around with the paint and actually had a few layers once I was done.  Each canvas has a different feel.  I added color over a few days, using nap times to get creative!

STEP 3: Add Hand & Feet  I’ll be honest; I had the help of my husband and my parents.  I wish we had it all on video because it would be a funny memory.  My husband held my son while I placed his hand in the paint, I then put his hand print on each canvas.  We cleaned his hand and then repeated with each foot.  As soon as we were done with his feet, he went straight into the bath!

Step 4: Add “L” & “e”  Using the stencil I made, I added an L and e to each sign.  I tried to pat the paint so it wasn’t too thick and matched the consistency of the hand and feet prints.

Step 5: Wrap  I add a short note on the back of each canvas with a sharpie.  Make sure to include the date and your child’s age.  Get creative with your wrapping by including ribbon and fake flowers.

8”x16” Canvas:  I preferred this size so we had plenty of space but you could use any size that works best for you.

Background paint: I used a simple gray that we had in the garage. You just want to cover the background so no white shows through.

Acrylic Paint: I used 3 different colors: dark blue, yellow, and white.  I mixed the colors to paint the blue/green background and then used white for LOVE.

Brushes: I used foam brushes that I already had in my craft supplies.  You can use whatever you have on hand.

Cups/Plates: I used plastic cups to mix the acrylic colors and a plastic plate to dip my son’s hand and feet.

Stencil: I made a stencil by printing onto cardstock and then cutting out the letters.  You can use any stencil you may have or if you are brave enough, paint it freehand!

HINTS: Some of these materials I already had but the rest I got at Hobby Lobby.  Wait until canvas goes on sale, usually 30% off.  And sign up for the Hobby Lobby emails to use a 40% coupon for paint!  Also acrylic paint does not wash off easily so its best to use materials that I could just throw away, even the brushes!  Have a nice bubble bath ready for your little one as soon as you are done with their prints.

If you don’t want to use canvas, you can follow the same easy steps with a piece of pre-cut wood (also found at Hobby Lobby).
