Fourth of July on Austin Moms Blog

It’s OFFICIALLY July… one of my favorite holidays is making its way to town this weekend and I want us to all be prepared! There are so many ideas that you can share with your friends and family, so I’ve attached a few of my favorite things that time permitting, hopefully we can try together. If you do try out one of the ideas listed, send us a photo link or comment below to let us know your favorite ideas, crafts, and traditions for the 4th of July!

1.    First, the AttireUntitled design (7)

When I took my son to Schlitterbahn last year, I wanted to make sure I found the perfect suit. In fact, I did. I found it on Ebay! Some Etsy stores like this one have some really cute baby inspiration outfits. Or better yet, make your own! I really like this cute top on LavishBoutique.com and it would also be very easy to make with some fabric swatches, ribbon and a striped tank.

2.    The Nailsb971aa815452ed56b09358fdb87f1b51

Who doesn’t love to paint their nails? While some of these designs might better be left for a nail Picasso, it’s always easy to do a french-style manicure with red polish and white tips or vice versa. I also like this simple festive chic style above!

3.    The Eatswatermelon-cheese-flag

I love watermelon this time of year. Not only does it cool you off, but you can also get creative! Get some red, white, and blue sprinkles and dip your strawberries, ice cream cones, Oreos, and other edibles to add a little 4th of July sparkle to your outdoor (or indoor) menu. You can also take dough from croissants, and wrap it around hot dogs on a stick to make them look like a firecracker! Use blueberries, strawberries, and white cheddar cubes to create festive kabobs, drinks, and cakes!

4.    The DrinksUntitled design (9)

HalfHourMeals.com has a great holiday sangria recipe among its top 10 4th of July drink recipes. Check them out here! For kid-friendly drinks, try this delicious frozen Kool-Aid and Sprite recipe here on FoodfamilyFinds.com! (used with permission)

5.    The Watch Party

Where do you go for the 4th of July? Every year, Austin and neighboring towns put on a great show. My first year in Austin, there was a drought so they weren’t going to have any fireworks, but Georgetown did! They were spectacular. The year after that, we enjoyed the fireworks at Milburn Park in Cedar Park. Not only did they have music and dancing, but they had a rock wall and activities for the kiddos. Last year, we ended up going to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels on the 4th and afterwards watched the show at Landa Park! Well, wherever you decide to go, here’s some family friendly 4th of July festivities I recommend:

Milburn Park in Cedar Park
Landa Park in New Braunsfels
San Gabriel Park in Georgetown
Lago Vista Celebration (Saturday, July 5th)
For a larger list to choose from, go here 🙂

To my surprise, while writing this post, I learned that the traditionally downtown Austin fireworks will not be held at Auditorium Shores this year. Instead they will be held at the Circuit of the Americas 360 Ampitheater, which might prove too crowded if you have little ones.

Where will you be spending your 4th? Whether enjoying the festivities at home or rocking out to an outdoor concert, I hope my post helps give some fun ideas to celebrate with those you love!
