husband & wife, best friends

Baby makes 6!

Baby McLane made his big debut on April 7 and we were all beyond ready. I had my 3 previous babes all at 39 weeks, so when I made it to 40 weeks my mind was blown. I am a total preacher of “due dates are a complete estimate and can vary two weeks give or take”…however I was still very anxious {and a control freak}. I had my birth all planned out to be natural and drug free. My doctor {Dr. Robert Cowan with Austin Area OB & GYN} is beyond amazing, he delivered all 4 of my babies and I wouldn’t consider anyone else. I am pretty natural and “hippie” and he is pretty mainstream, he has no problem letting me have my way 99% of the time. He fully supported my decisions, but said he wouldn’t let me go to 41 weeks, so we scheduled an induction for 40 weeks 2 days.
We went in and he broke my water at 8:30am, my nurse quickly discovered that baby had indeed dropped as doc said, but his head was tilted which is why I likely hadn’t gone in labor yet. My doula went straight to work putting me in different positions to open my pelvis and help baby straighten out and drop more. There are no words for how amazing my husband and doula were…she was priceless and I wanted a do over on my previous births! {check her out – Julie Garcia}

We walked a mile in laps around the hospital, used the birthing ball, etc. By 11:30 I had progressed but agreed to a “wiff” of Pitocin, they gave me the smallest amount for just a bit to get things going. It worked {knew it would from previous experience}, things got going quickly but not too severe. My breathing method was very internal and quiet this time. Julie and my husband had to watch the monitor because they couldn’t tell when I was having a contraction, I somehow really got in the zone. We diffused Young Living oils and Julie massaged my back with them {priceless I tell you, trust me, the woman is amazing!}, used the birthing ball…it all helped and things were moving along nicely.

Doc checked me around 1:30ish and I was a 7…ahhh the end in sight…and back labor started. That was the most intense pain I have ever felt, soooo much worse than contractions! I still had some worry about whether baby had straightened out or was still crooked… my gut knew he was still crooked.

All of the sudden at 2 pm my breathing completely changed and thing were very intense, Hubs informed the nurse that baby would be arriving in the next 15 minutes. I LOVE how in tune he is with me and my body when I am in labor. Nurse {the BEST nurse I’ve ever had} called Cowan in and it was go time in a flash. After the 1st push I knew baby was either stuck or was 10+ pounds and had awful visions of my vajayjay being destroyed LOL {I have BIG babies anyway, but 9.9 was my max, 10+ sounded horrific}.

Baby was indeed stuck a bit, he had turned his shoulders. However, Cowan threw some gloves on the Hubs and 4 pushes later my husband helped deliver our amazing little boy. {Vajayjay not destroyed FYI}

Our bouncing baby boy was 8lb 12 oz and 21.5 inches long, born at 2:23pm. We were of course immediately smitten with him and oh so thankful for a healthy babe! He immediately started sucking his thumb and was ready to breastfeed. I plan to spoil him rotten and 4 months later I hold, snuggle, love on, and kiss him as much as humanly possible. His brothers are all still just as enamored with him as well and nothing could make me happier. My house full of boys is just amazing and all I could have ever wanted plus more.

After his arrival I took a major hiatus from everything in my world except my husband and kids, all I want to do is just enjoy them and not miss a moment, especially with McLane. They grow and change so quickly, too fast really. There has been no blogging, no volunteering, no room mom, no Junior League, if I don’t feel like doing it I don’t and don’t feel bad about it. Knowing that this is my last time to experience these baby moments gives a whole new outlook to it and it is a beautiful and emotional ride.
