We’ve had a pretty harsh winter for typical Austin, Texas weather and it’s not always easy to entertain the kids when it’s gloomy outside.

Now let’s assume you’ve baked cookies, built a fort, read books, and puzzled puzzles {go with it}… what’s next?

Here are 5 Indoor Activities when you find yourself bored, at home, AND it’s a gloomy day! 

Cool Whip Finger Paint

We did this project over over the Summer, but this is EASILY an indoor craft as well! Take it to the driveway on a pretty day or pull out some wax paper and let the kiddos go to town on a cold or wet day!

What You Need:

• Cool Whip
• Food Coloring
• Cupcake Tray
• Paint Brushes {optional}

What You Do:

• Fill your cupcake tray with cool whip
• Mix in a few drops of food coloring and stir
• You’re ready to let your little one(s) paint… or EAT!

Moon Sand

This is one of those projects that can be done both indoor or outdoor. Here’s my oldest over the summer, but we’ve brought this inside on plenty of gloomy days!

What You Need:

• Flour
• Baby Oil
• Large Bowl

     What You Do:

• Mix 8 cups of flour with 1-2 cups of baby oil and mix well
• It’s literally that easy and ready to go!
• Find a nice sized container or a spot for them to play where you don’t mind a mess and they can make shapes, balls, or just play with for hours!

Food Paint

What You Need:

• Sweetened Condensed Milk
• Food Coloring
• Paint Brush
• Muffin Pan or Mini Cups
• Medium Size Marshmallows, Popcorn, or any other paintable treat

     What You Do:

• Pour Sweetened Condensed Milk in the little containers: use as many containers as colors you want.
• Generously drop food coloring into each milk container and stir.
• You’re ready to paint your treats!

Science Experiment Car Wash ***play with caution***

What You Need:

• Baking Soda
• Vinegar
• Baking Sheet
• Matchbox Cars

     What You Do:

• Cover the baking sheet generously with baking soda
• Let the kids make tracks and play with their matchbox cars in the baking soda.
• When they get bored… pour some vinegar over the baking soda and the kids will be enamored! Let them play in the suds, but make sure to supervise so they don’t accidentally get the mixture in their eyes.

Glitter Slime

I found a super easy, fun, awesome, 2-ingredient DIY to try with my kids, and we loved it!

What You Need:

• Glitter Glue
• Borax
• Water

     What You Do:

• Pour the glue into a bowl. The kids LOVED doing this!
• Add 1 T. water to make the glue a little easier to work with {not quite so glue-y}.
• Mix 1 t. of Borax in 1 C. water and add to glue.
• MIX AND PLAY!!!
