Treat yo self! Or really let’s treat a new mom! If you’ve had a baby, you know how invaluable it is to have help when you come home. There are so many things that are overwhelming or confusing that help in any fashion is so wonderful. But what are the best ways to treat a new mom?

Let’s talk about the top 5 ways you can help a new mom…mostly for free!

Austin Moms Blog | 5 {Mostly Free} Ways to Treat New Moms

1. Bring dinner. And make sure it is something mom and dad like! I could barely remember my name when we first came home from the hospital, and my husband was equally mentally impaired {he hit 2 parked cars running 1 errand the day we got home from the hospital with our first…luckily WITHOUT the baby in the car}, so people bringing meals was such a blessing. Better yet – you can set a meal calendar and invite friends to sign up for dates. It’s great to get a few meals a week for a month!

2. Do some chores…any chores. Load or unload the dishwasher, fold a load of laundry, wash some bottles…anything. A new mom is doing 1 of a few things when baby is sleeping, and I guarantee it isn’t chores! And don’t ask. Just do. She will be too embarrassed or tired to say “yes, please wash my dishes” when you ask how you can help, so just look around…and do something!

3. Run errands. Every time my best friend went to the grocery store for weeks, she called me and asked what I needed. I always paid her back {at least I hope I did! New mom brain…} but not having to dress the baby & myself, figure out the logistics of leaving, and navigate the store was priceless! And if you think mom will tell you she doesn’t need anything, bring a pack of diapers or wipes or baby wash or heck, even a frozen pizza. You know they need something!

4. Hold the baby. I know, I know this is a no-brainer, but think about it –  you came to see the baby not really your friend, right? So take that baby and send mom to take a nap or a shower or whatever she needs. I held my babies non-stop and wouldn’t put them down. And that meant I couldn’t take care of myself. I had a friend come every week in the middle of the day for a few hours. She held my baby, and I would get in a shower or take a short nap or really do whatever I wanted. Sometimes we would visit and sometimes we wouldn’t. She wasn’t there to see me!

5. Kick mom out. Hold the baby and send mom out of the house. My first trip out of the house after my son was born was a trip to the library and Starbucks. It was glorious! After my daughter, it was a pedicure. I was gone all of an hour, but it was my own hour!
