Austin Moms Blog | Meet Carrie Maddux

I was born and raised in Spring, TX and have called Lakeway, TX my home for over four years.  While I obtained a degree in Business and minored in English from Texas Woman’s University, I proudly began my college career at Baylor. Sic’ Em Bears! I’m the youngest of four, a Scorpio, left handed, an introvert, and slightly OCD.  I strongly believe that a refreshing margarita (or two!) can cure any problem.

A little background on me: I was nanny for several years until starting my own family with my husband of 5 years, David. Although my major was in business, I am passionate about children and found happiness in being a nanny. It makes my heart happy knowing I was a positive influence in the kiddo’s lives. Back track a few years, we were living in the Dallas area when he popped the big question, but Austin has always been my favorite city since childhood. I moved to Austin in 2007 looking for a fresh start. David moved from Oklahoma to actually be my roommate! Well, that didn’t last long and we started dating.  Life took us in different directions and we moved several times before calling Austin home again. We got married at the amazing Smith Family Chapel in 2010 and two short years later, we welcomed our first daughter, Madison. I eagerly accepted my new job position as stay at home mom and just had another beautiful baby girl, Brooklyn, in October 2014. Some people are called to change the world, but I feel I was called to be a mom. I adore this time in my life! Our family would not be complete without our two fur-babies, Tuck and Rowdy. At the end of the day, my greatest joy is watching my hubby interact with our daughters since I am a daddy’s girl at heart.

In between trying to find balance between mommy, wife, etc, I am always looking for the best deals. If I want a shiny new pair of Kendra Scott earrings, I will have a coupon code to enter before paying full price. In fact, my friends and family usually call me to see if I have any discounts before they buy something too! Being frugal does not mean you still can’t own nice things 🙂

I also love a good DIY project (usually something of rustic appearance), Target,  traveling, reality TV, HGTV, Barre3 , and the beautiful hill country. I am also a lover of all things rustic and shabby and I’m fortunate to be married to a handy man of a husband. Although he is a financial advisor by trade, he can build a pallet wall in record time. When I am not on mommy duty, I love to indulge in a fancy breakfast. The idea of being able to sip HOT coffee without having to heat it up 3 times is as luxurious as a spa day to me.

While I do consider myself to be traditional with two pretty easy birth stories, I feel that moms need to take their judgement caps off and support one another.  Whether it be formula feeding to c- sections, at the end of the day we are all trying to do our best, right?

I am super excited and honored to be a contributor for Austin Moms Blog. I am eager to learn from the other fabulous moms, be provided a strong platform to share personal stories, and most importantly have some fun in the process! Austin has such a special place in my heart.
