Austin Moms Blog | 5 Breakfast Smoothie Recipes to Help With Your Mornings

For most of us, the mornings are full of a million moving parts. There’s the challenge of motivating everyone, getting everything organized and packing lunches. And then there’s breakfast. Trying to accommodate everyone’s tastes became a dreaded chore in our household, not only because it took precious time, but also because I struggled to remain calm and positive in the face of any push back from the kids while on a tight schedule. As moms, I know we all want to make sure we send our kids off with a healthy meal that gives them the absolute best start to their day. And we want this meal to be delicious and easy to make. We want our mornings to be as calm and peaceful as possible.

I was so far off from this dream of creating beautiful mornings that something had to give. Breakfast needed to become easier on all of us.

And then it hit me. When one of my kids started asking for sips of my morning smoothie and begged for more, I wondered why I didn’t start making them for everyone. I also realized how simple the mornings could be with my blender, frozen fruit and the few other ingredients we love to add. Making smoothies has since become a ritual everyone loves, one that sets such a positive and happy tone in the household. We’ve become so organized about it that the kids can make their own blends and create recipes they love, which frees me up to tend to everything else that needs my attention.

For added nutrition in our breakfast smoothies, we add Kura Protein Powder, which is not only a source of protein, but also provides, calcium, omega-3s, probiotics, vitamins and minerals. We love Kura because this brand tastes delicious and adds a smooth and creamy quality to the smoothies. As a picky mom, I love Kura because the dairy used is sourced from New Zealand, where cows are grass-fed and raised on pasture.

For the fussy eaters, the happy toddlers, the busy teenagers and everything in between, these easy and quick to make smoothies provide a healthy punch of nutrition delivering the protein kids of all ages need for growth and development, healthy bones, and a strong immune system. They are truly kid tested, parent approved delicious blends that happen to also be incredibly healthy. Who said healthy can’t taste good?

You and your family should create your own wonderful smoothies (and let us know your favorites!) – but here are some ideas to get you started. Note: I used a half serving of Kura and less liquid – but that is just my kids’ preference!

Dreamy Green

Austin Moms Blog | 5 Breakfast Smoothies that Saved Our Mornings

Green smoothies are a brilliant way to sneak in a serving of dark leafy greens for the extra punch of alkalinity and amino acids. Any selection of fruit makes the smoothie naturally sweet and adored by the whole family. Using frozen fruit eliminates the need for ice and yields a perfect consistency.

4 oz almond milk

1 handful of spinach

1 cup frozen banana, sliced

½ cup frozen mango

Optional: 2 dates, pitted

+ ½ scoop vanilla Kura

Berry Sorbet Smoothie

This one really mimics sorbet. You can easily adjust the amount of liquid for a thicker or thinner smoothie. You can also omit the avocado and add an extra ½ cup of frozen fruit if preferred. A high-speed blender, like the Vitamix or Blentec, is key for blending those thicker smoothies.

6 oz almond milk

½ cup frozen blueberries

½ cup frozen strawberries

¼ avocado

+ ½ scoop berry Kura

Orange Creamsicle

This is truly a healthy take on the orange creamsicle.

Who knew a fruit smoothie could mimic chocolate? This one does just that without processed sugar! The key is to let your bananas get really ripe, with brown spots all over the peel, and then slice them and freeze them. This one is a favorite any time of day.

4 oz almond milk

1 tablespoon of almond butter

1 teaspoon of cocoa powder

1 cup of frozen banana, sliced

3 dates, pitted

+ ½ scoop chocolate Kura

Mint Chip Smoothie

The fresh mint leaves in this one are a family favorite. You can also add a handful of spinach for a greener smoothie and a few dates to sweeten it as desired.

4 oz of almond milk

3 fresh mint leaves

¼ avocado

1 tablespoon cacao nibs

handful of ice

+ ½ scoop vanilla Kura
