Hello there! I’m one of a rare breed known as the ‘native Austinite’. From what I hear we are an endangered species and, after a handful more SXSW years coupled with Austin traffic, extinction is inevitable.

I have known my husband, Nicholas, since first grade but it was not until we moved in next door to each other in college that we became friends. We married in 2003 and honeymooned during the week of UT’s spring break (that’s what happens when you get married right before you graduate college). Nicholas is amazing and my biggest cheerleader, and I’m one lucky lady with him.

After college I went to work in non-profit for a few years. We started our journey to start a family around 2005 and then it was like proverbial crickets. Hello? Hellooooo??

After a few years of infertility treatments, during our second IVF procedure, we decided to go all ‘Vegas’ and transfer three embryos (at the strong discouragement of our Reproductive Endocrinologist). Those three orbs on an ultrasound screen resulted in our daughter, Eisley Paige, born in 2008. About 13 months later we became one of those ‘annoying’ couples that surprisingly achieved what was previously unattainable (if you’ve ever experienced infertility, you can imagine my guilt). We found out we were pregnant and, despite having spent tens of thousands the first time, we managed to procreate for the bargain basement price of a bottle of wine. We welcomed a son, Everett Aaron, in 2010. A quick snip later, our family planning was complete.

I have a very supportive family that lives either in Austin or very close by. My husband and I am extremely fortunate when it comes to spur-of-the-moment babysitters when we need to get out of the house. I have an amazing sister who I don’t get to see often enough because we both have young children. When we can find time to get together it’s one of those pee-in-your-pants kind of occasions because we can’t stop laughing. I need to get more of that in my life.

Currently I spend my days as a mom and house manager (aka just-trying-to keep-it-all-together-ager). My children are busy riding their bikes without training wheels and venturing down the street unattended, and it all feels uncomfortable and too soon. How in the world did we get from infants to here? It’s been an amazing journey which is far from over, yet I’m about to enter a new chapter. With my youngest only a few months away from kindergarten I’ve found myself in a quandary, constantly trying to figure out what comes next. I know deep down that I have a lot to give but it’s hidden somewhere. After almost seven years, it’s time to go searching to find a little bit of myself. I need to get up in the attic and dig my identity out of the box where it’s been packed away.

What I do know about myself is I’m a deep thinker with a creative streak that’s bursting at the seams to get out. I get great enjoyment out of making others laugh and I’m hopeful that I will get to do some of that with my writing. I love photography, visual graphics and moving furniture around on a regular basis.

Traveling is good for the soul and I love to get away and see places outside of my hometown. I have a love affair with New York City and my little family would love to one day spend a summer there just to feel ‘authentic’. If you happen to have any great contacts in the Lower East Village, hook a girl up.

I would be the first to argue that my circle of friends is hands down the BEST you’d ever hope to meet. Girl time is hard to come by these days but necessary to keep my brain in check! My husband and I love to eat good food so we are trying to check out new restaurants on the regular. People are incredibly interesting to me, so if I can snag a date night with my man that includes a great restaurant, some cocktails and people watching,  AND an interesting documentary I’m set (of course, that would also mean I’d have to stay awake through the ENTIRE film which can sometimes be a challenge for this lady).

So here I am. I’m incredibly excited to have an opportunity to write for Austin Moms Blog and look forward to the road ahead!
