This article was inspired by a conversation I had with myself in an Abercrombie and Fitch dressing room. That’s right…Abercrombie and Fitch. I was on the search for a dress for an upcoming trip, and I spotted one in the A&F window. The horrific cologne surprisingly didn’t keep me away. I walked in and began picking up items here and there. I was VERY surprised to find clothing other than short shorts and super tight tees with A&F smacked all over them.

I headed to the dressing room and began to try on my items. I slipped on a faux leather skort (the mullet of clothing) that had caught my eye, not something I would usually pick up but it was on SUPER sale. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I immediately thought, “Ah…I like this, but is it too short? Is it too short for a MOM?” I felt great in the skirt. I felt sexy. But I questioned if it was too immature for a mom to wear. Where would I wear it?

After a few minutes of going back and forth in my head, I finally said “F it. I’m getting it. This skirt makes me feel good about myself, and it’s ok to feel sexy.”

I believe many Moms feel less comfortable in their bodies after having kids. Our bodies change and we feel old, or is that just me? We are powerful women and (usually) confident in our skills to mother, but strip away the kids, and what do you have? A woman who feels confident? A woman who is strong? A woman who feels sexy in her own skin? I would hope so, but that’s not always the case.

This post is to say, YOU ARE A SEXY MOM! Don’t be afraid to feel that emotion, it’s ok. Sexiness is not something we create, but comes from deep within us. Be comfortable in your own skin, and please don’t look to Hollywood or magazines to tell you what sexy looks like.

I absolutely love this quote by Mary Jo Rapini, Children are powerless, and they sense that powerlessness. If we as a society promote, give power to and value “sexy,” whether it’s sexy moms, teens, or tweens, the children are going to try to achieve it. Maybe it’s time we give kids a new idea of what being sexy really is?”
