We all know this simple fact – life with a newborn is hard.
New moms are hard on themselves. She thinks she has NO idea what she’s doing. She doesn’t sleep when the baby sleeps. Her days and night stream together and she has no idea what time of day it is. Being a new mom is hard. How do I know? I just went through it! I want you to know that it gets better! MUCH better!!
New moms need a little extra thought when it comes to gift-giving this time in their life.
Here are some no-fail gifts you can give a new mom. She NEEDS them — for her sanity and well being!
#1: Starbucks gift card. Drive through coffee will be a God-send. No need to get the baby out and as a plus, the baby will probably take a nap on the way there and back! You can even sign her up for rewards. Free coffee, duh!
#2: Mommy and Me photo session (for when she feels pretty again). It will be hard to remember every little moment, especially when you’re sleep deprived. A session from an AWESOME local photog will capture a time when things were crazy and hard AND beautiful.
#3: Spa day, hair day or a simple mani/pedi. She will LOVE an hour or two off to get pampered. Anything longer than that might cause separation anxiety. Or not – give her the morning or afternoon off! I’m obsessed with Embellish Nails in Westlake – I can shop and get my nails done. “AHHH-mazing!”
#4: Subscription Boxes. Clothes, fitness, wine all delivered to your door? UM… HELLO! She won’t have to change out of her pj’s to get more wine. Bulu Box is a great kickstarter for getting that baby body back; Fabletics delivers high-end workout clothes to her door (by Kate Hudson); Stitch Fix simply ships outfits picked out specifically for mama, and clubW sends the wine she actually likes every month.
#5: Baby tools that ACTUALLY help mom. These things will make the new moms (AND baby) a little happier — baby wrap, sound machine, good bottles and bottle sterilizer. Baby wearing will change her life. We love our Tula, Ack Wrap and Ergo baby carriers. This sound machine goes everywhere and it will keep the baby calm and help them sleep longer = happier mom. (Plus, it’s cheap. No brainer!) These Minbie bottles look a little funky but I swear by them. They are shaped like a real nipple so there is no confusion and they fit in my bottle sterilizer which saves time, money and stress.
#6: Warm meal. Cooking for the new mom will seriously save her night (and the next few days of left overs.) She wont be pick because she’ll be so hungry – even more if she’s breastfeeding. Bring over or drop off one of your favorite dishes or cook her a nice meal. It’ll be a hit, I promise.
#7: A clean house. Treat her to a day of housecleaning – she’ll thank you. Whether you do it yourself or pay someone to clean the house, mommy and baby will be elated. Cleaning the house should not be something she needs to worry about.
#8: A fresh, new pair of pajamas. You know that feeling you have in crisp sheets or new pjs? She NEEDS that feeling. Plus, ones like these will make her feel pretty and sexy again.
#9: Jewelry to cherish for her lifetime. Whether it be diamond earrings or a monogram necklace — this will be a piece she can remember forever. I have a gorgeous silver monogram necklace that I pair with my son’s initial necklace from Kendra Scott. I smile every time I look at them. They mean the world to me.
