Hi there! My name is Alexis and I’m thrilled to be joining the AMB team! I hail from Baton Rouge, LA and never imagined I’d be doing life outside of the Boot. I landed in Austin in 2007 to attend graduate school at the UT School of Social Work and planned to only stay until graduation, but somewhere along the way met my husband and he’s held me hostage ever since. I worked as a domestic violence counselor and advocate for the bulk of my full-time social work career, that is until we found out I was pregnant with our second child. Unfortunately a social workers salary does not exceed the cost of two kiddos in daycare so we decided it made the most sense for me to transition to SAHM. Since I worked so dang hard to earn my degree(s) and clinical social work license, I refused to stop working completely and found a contract position with an adoption agency writing home studies. That now makes me what I like to call a semi-working mama. I love both of my current jobs, but managing tiny human dictators has definitely been the toughest work I’ve done so far in life.

Home is wherever you are.

Our son Rory (born 2012) is a ball of energy and completely your stereotypical boy. He loves running, jumping, climbing, kicking “soccer ball balls” (his word not mine), and will turn anything and everything into a sword. Our daughter Rowan (born 2014) came out a rebel and listens zero. She is loud, stubborn and in charge and keeps us constantly on our toes. She also never slept for the first 9 months of her life, that is until we hired a sleep consultant who saved our sleep deprived lives. I’m married to a 6’7″ red bearded lumberjack named, Ben. He has this crazy notion that we should parent six children, but so sad for him my uterus is closed for business until further notice. This little family we’ve created fills my heart with overwhelming amounts of joy, but raising tiny humans while also keeping my marriage and career intact is mostly complete and utter crazy town. I like to sarcastically share about my journey in crazy town on my personal blog, Mrs. Mombie. Yes, that’s the word mom and zombie combined and basically means I look like the undead on most days, just instead of eating brains I chug coffee. If you don’t like foul language and/or brutal honesty then I’d steer clear of my personal blog. I tend to share about my real life experiences – the good, bad, ugly and in-between.

I’m not really digging this whole talk about myself thing, but I’ll try to throw a few more fun facts your way. For starters I’m a hyper-organized control freak who thrives on lists so how about a list to get this about me ball rolling?
