COPENHAGEN-2

Dear Cable,

It’s not you – it’s me. You’ve been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember. You brought me The World of David the Gnome on Nick Jr. when I was young. You came with me to college and gave me a daily dose of Carson Daily’s TRL. You showed me the light and introduced me to Lifetime and Hallmark movies which have taught me how to feel. You taught me how to DVR Dancing with the Stars so that I can watch The Voice in real time. And, what’s more – you allowed me to have access to hundred of shows on that beautiful “On Demand” feature.

But, things change. I’m grown with a child of my own now. My days of endless, mind-numbing channel surfing through shows I don’t even enjoy are over.

Look, I’ll take some of the blame for ending this relationship, but it’s not all my fault. Sure, you’re beautiful and shiny and available to me whenever I want you, but your monthly bill is ridiculous. I just cannot validate spending upwards of $250 a month for one more minute. Frankly, it’s embarrassing.

I never said it was easy, though, getting rid of you, cable. But, the truth is that I have found someone else. Ok, several someone elses. It’s only fitting that I give it to you straight…

Here are the new loves of my life:

Sling TV – $20 a month.

sling

Sling makes me feel like I still have cable. I watch it using a free Roku we got when we signed up for Sling. We still get Mickey Mouse Clubhouse AND House Hunters.

Available channels: ESPN, ESPN2, AMC, A&E, TNT, HISTORY, Viceland (formerly H2), TBS, Food Network,HGTV, Travel Channel, IFC, El Rey, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Freeform (formerly ABC Family), Disney Channel, CNN, Bloomberg TV, Lifetime, Polaris+, Maker, Newsy, Flama, and Galavisión.

Hulu – One month free trial, then plans start at $7.99

hulu

I love Hulu because we can watch Curious George and The Hills. It gives you shows like The Mindy Project, the newest The Bachelor episode (the very next day), and entire seasons of shows like Seinfeld.

Bunny Ears – Antenna – FREE

antenna

Yep – my husband got on the roof and put up one of the old school antennas on a roof. We get ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC so we can watch the local news AND still see our favorite prime time television shows.

Netflix – One month free trial, then plans start at $7.99

 netflix

Netflix has incredible TV series like House of Cards and of course, Fuller House. The movie choices are endless and you’ll never have to pay $8 bucks onto of a monthly bill to rent a movie on cable’s On Demand feature ever again.

The coolest thing about getting rid of you, cable, are that I have so many options in addition to the ones I already use.

Thank you for being a part of my life for so long, but even good things have to come to an end.

Bye, Felcia Cable
