If you’ve lived in Austin for any length of time, you know that it’s pretty easy to suffer from major allergies here. With Cedar trees galore, high oak, high pollen, and just being in the thick of the trails and all of the amazing outdoor activities available to us in this great city, it’s easy to get sucked into the dreaded allergy season.  Whether it’s you, a kiddo, or the hubs, I’m sure someone in your household suffers at some point throughout the year. Here are a few ways to make allergy season slightly more tolerable. Hopefully some of these tips will help you and your family out so you don’t suffer from swollen, red eyes, an itchy throat, and stopped up nose!

1. Promote Indoor Play

We definitely have higher allergy seasons than the norm. I really try to promote more indoor play or find the best indoor places in Austin to take the littles. Even with A LOT of indoor play, eventually you have to venture outside. I try to remind my littlest, who is the worst about this, to keep his hands out of his eyes. We usually try to play outside later in the day so that it’s straight to the bath to wash off all the outdoor funk.

2. Close Up the Windows

My favorite time of year is anytime when I can justify keeping the windows open, but I’m constantly vetoed by my husband due to the horrific Austin allergies. I mean you can literally see that stuff floating around. Our family opts to keep the windows closed on days where we know mold, oak, and pollen are higher in counts!

3. Treat Early

Our family really tries to stay proactive rather than reactive when it comes to treating allergy symptoms. One of our newest partners, TexaClear has an absolutely AMAZING Kids Allergy Relief product. Not only is it designed to treat mild to severe allergy symptoms, it’s 100% gluten free, alcohol free, dye free, and sugar free. If you’re like me, you pay attention to the ingredients for your kiddos… I love that this is a clean option AND really works!

4. Keep Your Home Clean

Try your best not to track in the allergens to your home! Here are a few tips.

  • Leave your shoes at the door. We never ever wear our shoes indoors. There are so many things {beyond allergens} that you can track into your home. Guests think I’m crazy, but just leave those shoes at the door!
  • Laundry. Try to keep linens, towels, and plush toys clean! It’s easy to use that same towel all week long and change the bed sheets once a month {if you’re lucky}, but try really hard to keep up with the laundry. This will make a huge difference!
  • Dust. Whether it be by vacuuming, swiffering, or dusting, make sure you try to keep the house free of pollen! We opt for minimal carpet in our house, but the pollen can still get inside. This is a win/win! Clean house + less allergies!

5. Be Prepared!

Regardless of how hard you try, if you’re an allergy sufferer it’s still going to happen. You can prevent all day long, but let’s be honest… allergies are horrific in the ATX! TexaClear is ready to help fight with their line of kid relief products. When their sinuses are inflamed, we turn to Kids Congestion Sinus Relief to help open up those nasal passages so they can breathe. There’s also a Daytime Cough and Cold option too so that your littles don’t get drowsy.

TexaClear Kids products are designed to provide a clear and clean choice when your child {age 6 and up} is suffering, whether it be from allergies to sinuses and cold/flu symptoms. These fast-acting and powerful treatment options can be found exclusively at your local HEB!
