As Summer comes to a close, it’s time to get the kids ready to go back to school. From learning a new routine, to shopping for school supplies, a lot of preparation takes place. Check out these quick and easy tips from Neighbors Emergency Center, to help you get on the school bus of success for the upcoming year!

Ease back into the school routine

Switching from your summer schedule, to school schedule can be very stressful. The first few days back can be very overwhelming and filled with mayhem. Ease back into your routine by practicing your school schedule up to a week in advance. Have all the kiddos set their alarms, get up, and and put their clothes on in the morning. Then make sure that everyone stays awake throughout the day and practice cutting out those summertime naps. Practicing your routine, will help you work out any new kinks ahead of time and make the first day or school, as well as the days after, go much smoother.

Get all your class supplies early

Make sure to get your class supply list, and make a special trip to the store with your children. Back-to-school sales can be stressful, so the earlier the better. Kids feeling prepared for school can give them a great amount of confidence as they head into the classroom. And if you can, let the kids splurge a bit with a special notebook of their favorite cartoon character, or pens that are their favorite color. Once you have your school supplies, you can practice for the classroom by giving your kids fake homework and projects to get them excited about school starting.

Meet your child’s new teacher & tour the school

A large fear that children have is if they will like their new teacher. Schools provide many opportunities for students to meet their teachers before the school year begins. Check to see if there are any open houses or back to school nights. If not, you can look your child’s new teacher up on the school’s website so that your child can “meet” them. If your child is at a new school, or in a new classroom, it is always nice to tour the area. You can familiarize your child with their new environment and even find their specific desk. This can help them avoid those first day of school butterflies.
