My favorite part of the holiday season is watching the magic unfurl in my children’s eyes. The wonder, the excitement, the amazement, the joy — these are my favorite moments of celebrating during the holidays. I just don’t think, you know, I have to stay up until midnight to see it. (Attention New Year’s Eve, I’m looking at you!)

This year, we will be watching the Time Zone Map and ringing in 2017 at 3:00 pm with Moscow, Baghdad, and Nairobi, 4:00 pm with Helsinki and Cairo, 5:00 pm with Paris, and 6:00 pm with London. Then we’ll eat some dinner, hit the hay, and wake up refreshed and ready for a bright and new 2017! I mean, that’s the plan, but no guarantees for sleeping through the night, right?

Kids don’t need much to have a good time. Grab some sparkling cider, leftover birthday balloons, and some noise makers. I guarantee they will have a great fun every hour, on the hour, as each time zone rings in the New Year.

Best of all, celebrating the last day of the year gives time for reflection on what your family has been through and accomplished in the last 12 months. It’s an opportunity to set goals for the new year; to start fresh. It’s the time one chapter ends and a new one begins. So no matter how you choose to celebrate, may you have a bright and happy new year!

What are YOUR plans with kids on New Year’s Eve?
