Hello ATX Mamas! My name is Abigail Head. I am a thirty-something wife, mama and Native Texan. I am basically from Austin; we moved here from Houston when I was 8 years old. I grew up in Westlake and now live in North Central Austin with my little family of four. I met my hunky husband, Chad, when I moved back home after graduating from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth (Go Horned Frogs!).  We briefly worked at the same country club where he captivated me one day while walking across the roof in a severe thunderstorm. I had to know this fearless young man. At the end of that summer, I decided to pack up my things and move to New York City to get my feet wet in life. Although I had traveled abroad a bit, I still felt a need to soak up The Big Apple living. My experiences and friendships gained are still a big part of who I am. Once I moved back to Austin, Chad and I rekindled our relationship and married a few years later. We will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary this year!

Real estate has been my career in some form or another since graduating college; from working at a big real estate investment company to assisting agents with their paperwork and even purchasing properties to fix up and sell. These days I am more of a stay-at-home mama who does the real estate thing very part time. My hard working husband and I have two little rug rats. Our son Teak is 6 years old and our daughter Sloan is 2 years old. These three are my people; the loves of my life.

Like most moms, one second I am sobbing over how much I love my children and the next second pulling my hair out because they are simply not listening or behaving like wild baboons. I practice co-sleeping and extended nursing. Catch me on a good day and I will tell you it was the best parenting decision that I have made but I can promise you that I have not slept a full night’s sleep in over 6 years. Don’t judge the circles under my eyes, please. These friendly, small creatures of mine are two vibrant, strong willed red-heads who know how to love; their hearts are so kind. They can be sensitive like me and take big risks like their father. Ten minute run to the local HEB turns into a 3-ring circus EVERY TIME.

My faith helps keeps me centered especially trying to raise tiny humans in this world.  I am not a perfect being nor will I ever promise to be a perfect being, however, I am doing the best that I can in the moment that I am in and with the help of morning coffee and Jesus.

I love to make old things new and hunting for antiques in Warrenton. Crafting and sewing keep the creative person inside me happy. There is just something about finishing a sewing project; I love how my daughter twirls in her new little skirt that I made just for her.

My rambling thoughts and mind need some place to rest so writing encourages my introverted self to not keep things bottled up. I started a little blog about 6 years ago when we found out our son had Spina Bifida and bilateral hearing loss. It was a way for me to make sense of the emotional roller coaster that was circling around in my head and maybe help another mama out. Motherhood is sometimes a strange and lonely place to be yet with every turn (or playground) there might be another mom who is going through something similar that can turn your confusing or guilty thoughts into positive ones. And even on the most challenging parenting days, a simple hug and kiss from our children can make everything disappear.

A few random little things that I delight in are coffee, chocolate, a perfect mango, chips and salsa, YouTube DIYs, scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram, Fixer Upper, good quotes, captivating pictures, reading, fabric, baking, walks to the park and bible study.

Austin is such a wonderful place.  This town has changed so much in the past 30 years.  It is a growing little city with unique neighborhoods at every turn. We feel a great sense of community in our central hood. Who wouldn’t want to live in the Austin area, even for a little bit?

Thank you for having me Austin Moms Blog.  I am so excited to be a part of this great community of women!
