dads night out ideas

Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Mom’s Night Out. Dinner and drinks with the ladies, a girly flick at Alamo Drafthouse, heck, even some freshly brewed coffee and a book discussion has me saying, ‘Yes!’ But, no lies, it also sounds super appealing to put the kids to bed (early of course), change into those totally tattered college sweats, and have ice cream for dinner while drooling over Magic Mike. Or, skip the clothes altogether and just hop into a bathtub overflowing with bubbles (swoon). Oh, and wine… definitely wine…

So clearly I have my part of the deal all mapped out, but how do we get those gorgeous husbands of ours on board? Well, we taunt them with stellar Dad’s Day/Night Out options and tell them to (politely) get out!

For Father’s Day, here are some Austin Dad’s Night Out ideas:

Top Golf (The Domain) – You don’t have to be good at golf to play here, but it sure does help to know how to swing.  Multiple tiers of golfing pods where your mission is to hit the golfball into a particular target.  Full bar and tasty restaurant accompany this sporty space.

Austin Beerworks (183 + MoPac) – An active brewery that offers up their newest brewskis on the spot. And don’t worry about the stomach giving you rumbles, food trucks frequent this establishment. Tastings are happening here on the daily, and kids are even welcome if you wanted to make it a Couples Day Out.

Paintball – Several locations in and around Austin. Texas Paintball is ranked very high, but it’s a bit of a drive, especially for Southies. Xtreme Paintball, Austin Paintball and Outlaw Paintball are a few others that look like fun!

Jester King Brewery (13005 Fitzhugh Road) – This place is a man’s dream. JKB prides itself on incorporating it’s surroundings and using local ingredients in their brewing process.  This beer definitely has a unique and delicious taste.  And adjacent to the brewery is Stanley’s Farmhouse Pizza (which the kids love too)! Beer and Pizza?! Done deal.

Red Horn Coffee House + Brewing Company (Cedar Park) – My husband and I stumbled upon this gem one afternoon after a nice run along Brushy Creek. They had a tent at Champion Park for Party in the Park, and after a run, it seemed only fitting to try their Trail Runner Golden Ale. I am not a beer person, but this was mighty tasty, and muy refreshing! In addition to beer, they have coffee and cafe fare. Bonus: You can take home a growler of your favorite brew.

Gun Range – Multiples ranges located all around Austin. A few that have been mentioned: Red’s Indoor, Shady Oaks, The Range and Eagle Peak in Leander. This is one to make your man feel extra manly too.

Dell Diamond (Round Rock) – Baseball. Beer. Nachos. Hotdogs. ‘Nuff said.

Poker – (Downtown) The Austin Poker Club via Meetup appears to host ongoing FREE poker tournaments on Rainey Street.  Perhaps this could be a great option for a group of men wanting to play a game together without having to kick the wife and kids out of the house?

Man Meat – With Austin’s amazing BBQ and a diverse gathering of culinary geniuses, there is sure to be a restaurant to satisfy any man.  Jacoby’s is chalk-full of options incorporating their signature beef.  Salt + Time is a butcher shop and restaurant in one (prepare to nurture the ‘meat sweats’ once they return from this awesomeness).

Austin B-Cycle (Central) – 50 bicycle racks throughout Central Austin to pick-up and drop-off.  Explore the city on two wheels, and do it all for only $12. Ride to Ladybird Lake, grab some coffee on the East side, and/or venture West to splash in the pad at Clarksville.

Rent a Boat (Lake Travis + Lake Austin) – Because we live in such a phenomenal city, there are many options for boating. From paddle boards to kayaks, pontoons to sailboats, anything and everything is available to your main squeeze and his crew.

Lo is the Founder + Chief Innovation Officer of Trotting with Tots, a local stroller-toting mama tribe. When not scoping out new trails and neighborhoods to explore with the running group, she spends her time cooking up random vegan concoctions, inflicting pain on friends with her waxing skills, putzing around on her Cricut machine, inventing some new house project for her husband, and/or drinking wine while watching the latest episode of Intervention. Lo is married to her very own Magic Mike, whom she met on an airplane, and is lackey Mom to two munchkins (Gage + Gemma), and an allergy-ridden pup (Killian). She loves the color yellow, the sound of high heels on asphalt and gargantuan wind chimes.

  1. SO excited to share these! Sometimes it is so hard to find a good time for the guys to go out and do something and you just narrowed it down for all of us! The places are exactly where individuals that I know would go and still have a good time.
