Hello!

My name is Allie Henry. I have an 18-month-old daughter, Rosie, who keeps me on my toes, a husband, Michael, who keeps me arguably sane and two dogs who keep me actively searching for their next home. (Kidding – but if you have any great home de-furring remedies please shoot them my way. My current strategy to “meditate the hair away” isn’t producing promising results.)

I am a proud graduate of the University of Texas where I gained two degrees and a giant group of amazing friends who serve as an unwavering support system. I work as a Media Director at an advertising agency downtown, which led my husband and me to move from the burbs to the South Lamar area about three and a half years ago. My feelings about working downtown are similar to how I feel about business travel: from the periphery, it sounds glamorous, exciting and important but the reality just puts you at a higher risk of airborne illness and claustrophobia. (I’m actually writing this from a plane that seems to be about as technologically advanced as the house in “Up” but without the fun balloons. Let’s hope my next post isn’t, “Why they tell you to put on your own air mask first”.) All of that being said, I am sincerely thankful for a job I love at a company I believe in and coworkers who make even the hard days and long hours worth it.

My immediate family all live within three hours of each other. That radius just so happens to be 12 hours away from me, between Kansas City and Omaha. It’s difficult being so far away from the people who have to love me even when I tell them things they don’t want to hear (what are sisters for?). However, I am very lucky to have amazing in-laws here in Texas, mostly in the Austin/Buda area and Port Aransas. I really did hit the in-law jackpot even though busy schedules keep us apart more than we would like.

I think this is the part where I’m supposed to paint a picture of a family who hikes on the weekends, wears matching pajamas on holidays and effortlessly navigates sleep training. You know, make you guys visualize an L.L. Bean catalog circa 1995. While we do some of those things, our reality is much more disgusting and way less color-coordinated. (If I’m being totally honest, I had to remove a jacket I was wearing at work last week after discovering the “poop smell” was, in fact, coming from me.)

In terms of likes and dislikes, international travel has always been a source of inspiration for me although the only language I’ve perfected over the years is sarcasm. Red wine is my favorite way to relax, a good cardio session is key to my mental health and a week without queso is too long. Dislikes include wall art that tracks you with its eyes, the birds with personal space deficiencies at Whole Foods and anyone over 40 wearing Beats headphones. I suffer from an extreme case of RBF (resting b*tch face) and that, coupled with my sense of humor, can lead to a pretty terrible first impression. So, if we meet somewhere along the way, give me a second chance.

Anyway, I’m just trying to get by day-to-day without major medical intervention. I’m not an expert on anything mom-related. I have opinions, any of which could be easily changed through healthy debate or perspective and I hope we can all have a laugh or cry together (#hormones) and not take ourselves too seriously.
