Aloha ATX mamas! Would you believe the spirit of aloha is stronger here than in Hawaii? After a year of life in Austin, I can assure you, it is!

I’m Michelle Wendt and I somehow convinced my surfer husband Michael and sand-loving toddler Michaela to move from Honolulu to Driftwood just over a year ago. It all came to fruition after watching one-too-many episodes of Fixer Upper while breastfeeding my daughter in our tiny, old rental home in downtown Honolulu. I started dreaming of a classic American road trip (which is absolutely impossible to do when you live on an island). When the summer of 2016 arrived, we booked our tickets and spent a week driving from Dallas to Austin. Destiny must have hitched a ride with us too because on the last day of our trip, we bought our house! Now, how’s that for a summer vacation souvenir?

We literally knew right away that Austin would be a great place to plant some roots, raise our daughter, and build our small businesses. I won’t deny that we miss snorkeling with sea turtles every Sunday afternoon or taking long walks on the beach at sunset or enjoying an ocean swim after a long day of work, but the innate kindness of people here has truly blown us away.

Now we’re trading alohas for y’alls and little Michaela continually surprises us with her southern drawl. I juggle motherhood with my dream career of being a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) at my private practice Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC and I do some project management work too. When I’m not balancing the qi (life force) of my patients (mostly mamas and mamas-to-be), I turn to writing as my creative outlet. My professional blog at indigohealingacupuncture.com is written to empower people to heal themselves. When the constant juggling of life’s responsibilities stresses me out, you’ll find me seeking solace in the kitchen where I bake paleo-inspired gluten-free goodies for anyone close enough to stop by and eat them.

My house is usually a minefield of toys, but I treasure downtime with family more than an Instagram-ready home. On weekends, I love exploring the neighborhoods of Austin and checking out unique Hill Country shops and swimming holes. My mecca is a homegrown coffee shop where I can immerse myself in a good book or a board game with friends.

I feel very lucky to join the Austin Moms Blog tribe where I can navigate motherhood and life surrounded by the best mamas in the world!
