Hello! My name is Khaki Parmentier, yes, just like the color and yes, my real birth-given name. Native to Texas and an Austin transplant by way of Amarillo, TX where I was born and raised until about 16 years old.  In high-school I moved to Dallas, TX where I spent 13 years. I hit the Austin area at the age of 30 after my divorce in 2009 and have absolutely loved it. Currently, I reside in Cedar Park where I’m raising my Brady Bunch.

The back story of how my current husband and I met is comical. We became the Brady Bunch because a co-worker asked me to sign up on a dating website to spy on her allegedly cheating husband. He wasn’t. What I did find through that endeavor, though, was my future husband. Ha!

So, you have a story of a lady who was raising three very rambunctious boys (three boys aging under 3 years old, and yes, includes a set of twins), all on my own, as a full time working mom and full-time student. Then met a man raising two lovely girls, and oddly after only knowing each other for 119 days, we wed and formed the modern-day Brady Bunch….my 3 boys, his 2 girls, and then the “ours baby,” my first and his third daughter. That makes six children in one home, ages now ranging from 4-14. Things are chaotic at best and busy doesn’t even begin to describe our home. Since I don’t do static or mundane very well, this suits me.

I spend the majority of my days as a working mom. My more than full-time job is that of Corporate Controller for a nano-technology start-up. Until a few months ago, I was the only female employee in the organization. My husband works as software engineer and part-time chauffeur to all the activities we sign the kiddos up to do.

I feel as though I was put on this planet to be a mother but am passionate about being a working mom. I refuse to drive a mini-van, however, that would probably be the practical option. There are days where I feel I am living the ultimate life, raising these kiddos and days where I fit every inappropriate and exhausted mother related meme or illustration that exists on the internet. Blending a family has been the hardest challenge I have ever endured. Just when you think you’ve overcome a giant hurdle in the process, another one pops up. Like any blended family, we have our fair share of co-parenting challenges. We have the bio vs step kid challenges, the scheduling conflicts, living with 8 completely different personalities, marital challenges, etc. Perhaps, I will have an opportunity to share more on those topics in future blogs.

In my spare time, wait, strike that; there is no spare time…who are we kidding? Amidst all my chaos, I enjoy listening to all kinds of music (but consider myself a huge John Mayer fan.) Writing to me is very therapeutic and I use it as an outlet to stress. I do not consider myself an avid runner by any stretch though my weekend attire would probably give indication I’m a marathon runner. I do find running therapeutic but have not quite made it a part of my daily routine.  While Kyan, Kasyn, and Kamdyn are my all-time favorite athletes, I tend to fan-girl over most of the MLS or USMNT soccer players and any player on the Dallas Mavericks. I love watching professional soccer and basketball.

Amidst a move almost two years ago, I thought our family needed another addition. We added our standard poodle, named Maverick, to the brood. Truly the best (and smartest) dog I have ever owned. His desire to gnaw on all things Barbie is still a habit we are working on.

So, there you have it, a blurb about me and mine. I’m a believer in “the village” and feel like I have some of the best village people around. Mom life is hard but oh so rewarding. It is with that that I leave you and hope to share more about this mom-life and all that we conquer.
