Though Father’s Day is indeed a Hallmark holiday, my husband and I admittedly go all out for both Mother’s and Father’s Day. Perhaps it’s because we don’t have family around to watch our kids, so we have really learned to lean on and appreciate each other. It also might be because we don’t give each other holiday gifts since we’re typically so burnt out from planning our daughter’s birthday (Christmas baby!) and making sure the kids have a nice holiday, themselves. Whatever the reason, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day have turned into big deals in our house. Each parent is showered with gifts, homemade cards, and a delicious brunch.

That said, there are many great gift ideas for Dad no matter how big or small you want to go. Here are some of my favorite creative, out-of-the-box Father’s Day gift ideas:

  1. A Massage/Spa Day. Take a page out of our book (this is our tradition!) and send Dad away for a relaxing massage. Choose a location like the Away Spa at W Austin that has a pool and sauna included in his treatment day. It’s a great way to extend the relaxation.
  2. Homemade Gifts from the Kids. Every Dad will love and appreciate gifts from the kids. There are so many great craft ideas from your littles to make Father’s Day super special. A couple of my favorites are this Father’s Day Cutout Frame and these Mod Podge Coasters.
  3. Homemade Treats. Create a delicious treat for Dad with the kids! Consider a really fun snack basket (an inexpensive basket full of Dad’s favorite snacks and condiments) or other homemade things he will love. I really dig the Dad’s Stache treat jars and Father’s Day BBQ Sauce.
  4. Stitch Fix Subscription. My husband loves clothes, and I can absolutely relate. Having full-time jobs and three kids, going shopping isn’t exactly something we have a ton of time for. Stitch Fix has been around for awhile, but it’s a great way to let Dad shop in the comfort of home, and possibly help him find some great pieces. We’ve had great success with Stitch Fix, and it has turned into a year-round gift. Try it here!
  5. Leather Journal + Pens. My husband has recently taken up journaling and admitted that it’s a great way for him to get out his thoughts and ideas while taking a healthy step away from the screens. Consider a nice, leather-bound journal and set of pens for Dad this Father’s Day.
  6. Game Tickets. Is Dad a sports fan? Consider a pair of game day tickets, either for the two of you to get away or for him to bring a friend or family member.
  7. Give the Gift of Meditation. In our crazy world, meditation serves as a way to escape and bring positive changes and clarity to your life. Whether it’s an iPhone app or Meditation Bar class, this is a great gift for Dad to relax and unwind.
  8. A Subscription Box. What is Dad into? Bacon? Beer? Hot sauce? There’s a subscription box for that! Buzzfeed compiled some great monthly gift ideas here that I love.
  9. Learn to Fly. Consider a fun experience for Dad, like flight lessons right over in Georgetown or indoor skydiving! It’s another great thing to cross off the bucket list.
  10. The Gift of Food. Take Dad’s love of food to the next level with an Austin Food Truck Bus Tour. He’ll get to experience gourmet food truck tastings as well as a plethora of local beer, wine, and spirits.

What do you think of this list, Austin parents? Did anything stand out?
