Why I Love Living In South Austin

South Austin provides the charming neighborhood vibe, however it’s a quick drive to downtown or hill country, so centrally located to enjoy all that Austin has to offer! Taking the stroller and the dog down to the community center for Friday food trucks, a lobster roll for me and the hub, ice cream for the kiddos and an evening outdoors with folks in the neighborhood.

The family friendly atmosphere is present and vibrant. You can go almost anywhere with kids in tow and the whole family has fun! Many restaurants have outdoor playscapes for families, that way parents can stay sane while grabbing a bite to eat!

Date night options are endless.

The short drive to downtown for a live music show, a nice dinner on South Congress or a bat cruise on Lady Bird Lake are all easy picks within a few minutes of your ‘hood. Another added benefit means cheaper ubers for those nights when you really want to let your hair down and have a few cocktails!

Are you big on traveling or host out of town guests? South Austin is less than 20 minutes to the airport to pick up your favorite {at least she thinks so} mother in law. I can guarantee those “northern Austinites” definitely can’t be there that quick!

The mecca that is Zilker Park!

Accessibility to the Zilker Park festivals like ACL & SXSW, the summer events like Blues on the Green or a cool dip at Barton Springs are all at your fingertips. Loading up a Yeti cooler and heading down to Zilker for the day is a fun activity that is so close to ‘burbs. Check out this list here for the latest events at Zilker Park.

Looking for an afternoon in the country?  South Austin is just a short drive to hill country where families can enjoy outdoor adventures and hiking. Breweries and distilleries are popping up all over hill country.  For ideas on where to go, check out this list of Family-Friendly Breweries, Wineries and Distilleries around Austin.

Overall, South Austin is the place to be in terms of leveraging all this city has to offer. The people are super friendly and are big on community, and you will likely fall in love with your neighbors.
