Pictures, Pictures, And More Pictures!

Yes, I Am That Mom.

As a stay-at-home mom, there is a lot I do all day. I do laundry, dishes, diapers, and don’t forget I KEEP A CHILD ALIVE ALL DAY! ALL. BY. MYSELF. That’s a lot. Mixed in with all of those things, I also always make sure to snap pictures of my son daily, and I don’t feel bad about it!

One of many pictures of my son that I took and posted to social media.

First off, my family and my husband’s family all live pretty far away; New Jersey, Ohio, and Nevada (plus many places between). Daily pictures and posts on social media help me and them to feel connected with each other.

Who doesn’t love a good bluebonnets picture?

Second, I love these pictures as a way to remember my child and his ever escaping babyhood.

I’m terrible at filling out his actual baby book, but what I’m not terrible at is creating digital ones through pictures.

It’s one of the things I love most about living in the digital age. My phone sorts and dates all of my pictures and videos for me! It’s convenient and photos don’t end up in some box stuffed inside my closet.

Third, these pictures always end up making beautiful gifts for my son’s grandparents. They love receiving their yearly Shutterfly picture book that chronicles the life and times of the baby boy they love. Those picture books also make for nice albums to show friends.

Cool apps worthy of a picture or video lovers time:

Instagram: Obviously this is a great way to edit photos until you get the perfect shot, and it can directly sync to sharing on your favorite platforms.

Layout from Instagram: Allows you to combine pictures into a collage

Adobe Photoshop Express: Allows you to touch up photos in a more detailed way.

Boomerang: These are just super fun. This app creates mini videos on a loop. If you haven’t tried a Boomerang yet, prepare to be addicted.

1 Second Everyday: This one is probably my favorite app yet. It loads your camera roll (videos and pictures) into a calendar and compiles the videos and pictures into a longer video. You can even have the dates listed for each second if you so choose in the settings. If you have a picture or video from each day of the year, you end up with a perfect memory video depicting 1 second a day from the entire year. Be prepared to cry your eyes out when you see just how much your littles grow in one year.

Shutterfly: This is my favorite app to load pictures onto when I want some good quality printouts. I use it to make everything from photo Christmas cards, to print out photo albums. Plus it will save your projects if you ever want to re-order. They will also ship the same product to multiple locations, which is clutch if you are like me and have family far away.

So, mama, if you are like me, and want to take a billion pictures of your kids all the time, feel no shame! Snap and share away!

Veronica DeSantos Ryan
Hi Austin mamas! I am Veronica DeSantos Ryan, a mama from Round Rock. My husband and I moved to the area in 2014 and love every minute of it. Our baby Oliver (May 2016) is the light of our life and we are enjoying every minute with him. After spending seven years teaching, I decided that I wanted to be a stay at home mom and teacher of life to my little boy. As a family we love running with Ollie in his jogger stroller, having picnics outside, playing with our two dogs and exploring all the the Austin area has to offer! I am also a performing princess for Lexi's Little Princesses Princess company, a teaching artist at The Georgetown Palace Theatre, and a member of the singing group The Vintage Dreams. I am an avid reader, piano player, singer, and occasional actress in community theater, and have recently been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Miracles and More.
