Best Day Dates!

One of my 2019 resolutions was to make more time for Fun!
I’ve committed to scheduling at least 1 day date per month with my

Cycle Date Lady Bird Lake

husband. The Goal?–To enjoy being with each other, maybe try something new, and CONNECT! Our affinity for day dates started around the time our second child was born. As parents of a newborn baby girl and a two year old toddler, staying up late for a date was no longer appealing! We were just TOO tired! Now that our kids are older, and sleep is back on our side {It will happen for you too Mama!!} we still prefer a day date! Especially on a gorgeous ATX day!

Here’s some of our favorite ways to connect on a kid free day!

Post Soul Cycle class at June’s

  • Our go-to is Sunday Soul Cycle + brunch! We get the day started with a fun, sweaty, dance party and then get to enjoy a quiet brunch where we linger over plates of food, piping hot coffee, the Sunday paper, and {hopefully} sunshine! If Soul is not your thing, try a new way to be active together that’s out of your “normal” routine. Take a walk around Lady Bird Lake. Grab your bike and cycle around the city! Hike a new trail on the Greenbelt. The key is take a mini-vacation from your everyday life and see something new. It feeds the soul, invites connection and is so much fun

  • Get lit at the Austin Central Public LibrarySee why Time Magazine named our downtown library one of the world’s greatest places to visit in 2018.  Our library is a total masterpiece of unique architecture & engineering, spanning over 6 floors!!! A total must see while you and the hubs are kid free! {Although it’s so much fun exploring with the little ones too}  After scouring your favorite books in a cozy corner, take time to walk hand in hand through their featured art exhibit. Linger a while longer on the 4th floors’ outdoor terrace. There is a beautiful view of Lady Bird Lake and our amazing city! Round out your date at Cookbook Bar & Cafe, the library’s own counter service eatery! I love how you can browse featured cookbooks while dining on seasonal, fresh, culinary delights.  Our favorite is the Moroccan Wild Mushroom Omelette along with an iced Americano and a glass of Rose’ for good measure!
  • Catch a mid-day movie at Moviehouse & Eatery. Relax and zone out together in front of the ‘Big Screen’, in plush comfy chairs over a yummy meal. In darkness….in TOTAL SILENCE!!
Yes, it’s still a date. You are rejuvenating yourselves and getting back to neutral! G
rab a coffee from Summer Moon and take a walk post movie so you actually get the chance to chat before returning home to the grind.
  • Kick the kids out of your house!! Ask a friend or a parent to “borrow” your kids for a few hours and take back control of your casa!
We love to send the kids to my Mom’s house in exchange for an Adult Pool Day in our back yard! We blend margaritas, blast the music and enjoy a splash free, scream free day! It’s free, it’s easy to plan and we are so happy to have a family pool party when they return! Splashes and screams included.

  • Pack a picnic and head to Zilker Park or Mt. Bonnell!
Perfect for sunny, spring days when you just want to be outside and enjoy the view! Pack a basket from Whole Foods with a fresh baguette, a charcuterie board and your favorite beverage. Lie back with your love bug on a cozy blanket and just be….Read a book, play cards, play music, bring a frisbee! Take in the chance to be together!

Your marriage is a partnership that deserves time and attention. Whether it’s during the day or after dark, try and find time to connect and reclaim that pre-kid groove with your partner!!

It doesn’t have to be an elaborate dinner out or BIG plan. Sometimes simple is better!

I’d love to hear about your favorite day date in Austin!
